Young people and Lady Gaga

No this is not a joke or nothing like that… but it seems like a lot of young adults and even young adult Catholics like to listen to Lady Gaga. And I think Lady Gaga is Catholic, but maybe she’s non-practicing…

So why do so many young people have this like and fascination for Lady Gaga and her music?

Any ideas???

Because her music is played on the radio stations that many teens listen to. She is weird, and she pushes the boundaries. Just like teens. (and her name is kind of cool!)
 
People like lady Gaga are simply there to push thing’s or quite simply break down the boundaries of morality. Her character was invented to solely do this and it is expressed in her music, her and other’s would call it Art. Remind’s me of people like Jim Morrison whenever he exposed himself he said that it was just an expression of Art and of course he said it in a i’m cool so i don’t give a **** sort of voice lol. She’s just the new craze of today in that once she has pushed it as far as society will allow her she will fade away until someone even more extreme come’s along. I’m sure other’s on here are the same and see it for what it really is, childish and silly. They become so wrapped up in themselves that pleasure, vanity and wealth is their God, and the people that idolize them do so because they are excited by what they believe to be new, they themselves want feel apart of this new craze. Just my opinion
 
Yeah, I agree with that!!! And ever notice lately how the pop-singers always come in 2’s?

I mean right now it’s Lady Gaga and Katy Perry…

A few years back it was- Brittnay Spears and Christina Aguilera…

And now honestly I don’t listen to the radio that much… The only group that I like is Coldplay but they haven’t got too much new stuff. And I like Mexican/Spanish Music-I’m half Mexican lol…
 
In the 50s, if this board had existed, there would probably be a thread (or a few!) titled “Young people and Elvis…”

Lady Gaga is a sensation, no doubt.

Two things make her unusual: a) unlike Madonna, she writes her own music; b) she makes a direct appeal to people who don’t quite fit in - she calls her fans “my little monsters”.

Her music is catchy and danceable, her lyrics are sometimes very interesting. Her videos, however, are something else. One of my daughter’s friends described them as “soft-core porn.” But, of course, that’s how many people described Elvis Presley’s shows.

I always find it’s good to talk to my kids about these things, just to make sure they’re on the right track!
 
I think she’s interesting and talented. I like a few of her songs and so does my daughter. I know she is pretty popular in the gay community. One of my male gay friends is obsessed with her. Don’t know if she is a fad, but I like her for now.
 
As a teen who finds Lady Gaga just plain creepy, I have no idea why she is so popular.:confused:

Hey, have any of you heard Weird Al’s parody of Lady Gaga’s song “Born this way”? Weird Al’s song is called ''Perform this way" and it really highlights some of Lady Gaga’s … eccentricities. I thought it was hilarious! 😃
 
She was on the View and actually described herself as a good Brooklyn Catholic girl underneath it all. My one daughter loves her- I can’t say anything bad about her without her getting mad but she is in her early 20’s and she is formed already-LOL! Glad my 18 year old likes country. I know I loved music that pushed the envelope and I am sure my parents did not approve- I guess at 53 I have finally become my parents-LOL!

When I had HBO for a while (on a deal) I saw some of her “Monster Ball” concert.
Some of the things she said (yelled out) were directly against Jesus Christ. Her dress and mannerisms were lewd for the most part.
I saw on the news banner today she was “egged” in Australia for performing with a wheelchair so I guess she finally went too far.
I feel she’s misleading a lot of young people and she’s not so innocuous.
Next to her, Elvis looks proper. At least he sang some very moving gospel music sincerely.
 
One thing i notice is that most lad’s are not appealed at all by her or her music, most like myself just think she’s an attention seeking looper. Almost all of her fan’s are female

She writes okay to really good music. Many of her rock and roll ballads are fantastic.
She has a bizarre sense of fashion that while often shocking, is really quite creative.
She seems generally like a “nice” person (although that doesn’t necessarily mean she’s a “good” person.

I suppose it’s a matter of personal opinion. I think she’s something else.
 
Please do not tell me that mature adults on here TRULY believe that lady Gaga is any kind of icon for misfits.

What’s a misfit in todays’s society? Wearing raw meat is controversial? She’s a tool, poor woman, worse thing I’ve seen.
A total degenerate and an insult to her own humanity.

Why catholic parents allow her in their homes and children’s ears is beyond me. She’s a mainstream version of marlyn manson- which is much worse, because that makes her more popular and more accessible.

Being such an open blasphemer of our faith should make banning her a no brainer

I am appalled to see people, ESP. “Catholics” listen or glorify someone so fallen.

And of course there would’ve been a post about “Elvis” and young people, and rightly so

" nice" because she hasn’t eaten anyone???

EVERYONE in America is nice. That’s hardly an adjective. it’s shallow and can mean "anything. I never teach my kids to be “nice” but rather virtuous - and I’m sure you’ll agree that all thiose “nice” Americans hate virtuous people, so go figure what this “niceness” is all about.

Misfits do like her a lot.

Agreed Catholic parents should discourage/keep their kids from her. But she’s not in the same category as Marilyn Manson.:eek:

I still say Elvis looks angelic next to Lady Gaga. Have you heard any of his gospel songs? A cathedral I know has his gospel cd’s on sale along with gregorian chants and other spiritual music in their gift shop.

It’s not the Sam, what songs were there 30 yrs ago openly blaspheming our faith. Have you seen the lyrics to “judas” have you seen her "Alejandro " video - I believe that’s the one with the nuns and the rosaries…,? she is extremely vulgar and overal the opposite of everything we should wish for our children.

I don’t care if my kids will be twice the age I am now, in my house there will ALWAYS be certain things that are forbidden, especially if things keep degenerating at this pace.

I mean-Fleetwood Mac…?

I like the sound/style of their music, and I’m only 34-born in 1977 lol…
 
Being different/ non-mainstream etc can be done without offending God… Artists whose art is offensive to God, no matter how modern or old timey they are, should be avoided.

There are all sorts of “Catholics” out there that are setting horrible examples and should not be supported.
