Good day I was informed that I might have some hormonal problems that might interfere with my ability to have children and they want to put me on birth control pills to help “fix” the problem…I was told it’s a temporary thing, no more than 4 months or so…but I am terrified…I have asked several doctors, actually 6 around where I live to see if there is anything else I may do or take, the answer given was “either you take these pills and get better that way you might still have a chance at having more children or don’t take them and perhaps run the risk of not being able to have more children at all!”

I would like to get better but I don’t want to have to take the pills and condemn myself more than what I problably am… 😦
If you were in this situation where your health depended on this what would you do? There is nothing else they can prescribe and I have asked and researched what other ways to fix this problem and so far that still remains the only answer!! 😦

You’ll probably get this response a lot, but it is the best answer:
Talk to your priest.

Not able to give medical advice, nor are we permitted here…but take it from me, someone who has taken bc pills as a hormone balancer…a woman cannot just use them temporarily. They are really meant for long term use, to ‘resolve’ hormone issues. Four months might be how long it takes to make you more regular, or resolve any hormone issues, and then bam, if you are taken off of them…your original problem might be even worse. I would seek a holistic way around the hormone problems. Sometimes, a lack of vitamin b12 or magnesium can be the culprit. I take an amazing supplement now, and it has really helped level things out. Not completely knowing your issue, just wanted to offer that out there. I would NOT use bc pills or synthetic hormone pills for a short duration…really, I think your body will be worse for doing that.

well you can talk to a priest, but I would still seek a 2nd and 3rd medical opinion from a NFP supportive doctor, or a specialist in hormonal systems (endocrinologist). Pills are the easy way out and with their side effects should set off your alarm bells.

I would suggest seeing a naturopathic doctor with a good reputation. They seem to know more about how to make the body function without pumping it full of synthetic drugs and hormones.

Any doctor telling you that you **‘have’ **to take birth control pills (which don’t “fix” anything) *or else *is not very much of a doctor, IMHO.

Well I don’t have private insurance so not sure how I would be able to go see an NFP doctor, or even some other specialist…Certain doctor’s and specialists are too expensive and some won’t take payments…
I live in illinois…so there is not much room for finding out who is willing to do what and accept what you know?!

I would get a second opinion from an NFP-friendly gyno. BC doesn’t “fix” things – it alters your hormones while you’re taking it, but your body will eventually go back to normal afterward.

What kind of vitamins are you taking? If you don’t mind me asking? Thanks for your help!
