Good morning! I would love to read your personal stories of how the Holy Spirit has acted in your life without the shadow of a doubt.

I am re-learning to learn the gifts and language of the Holy Spirit from a Catholic perspective – my intuition has always been strong and now I am beginning to believe that it was the Holy Spirit all along.

May our stories strengthen each other’s faith in our Lord!

How do you distinguish among the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit in terms of “who” is acting in your life? Wondering why you single out the Holy Spirit.

No specific reason – the Holy Spirit was on my mind this morning 🙂

Daily, I ask the Holy Spirit to show me where I can serve the Lord this day.
No kidding, I always find myself in a place or a scenario where help, mercy, a hug, instruction, or a prayer is needed by someone I DON’T KNOW.
The Holy Spirit inspires and guides, That the nature of the Holy Spirit. Christ said he would leave the Holy Spirit to guide using us in our daily lives and to give strength. There’s no singling out.
It’s all part of the Trinity…God using us when we allow ourselves to do good for the sake of His Kingdom.
Remember the saying " Christ has no hands and feet now but yours".

I was once very sad and depressed walking the streets of the city aimlessly with a heavy heart. Suddenly a voice in my head (a stranger voice, not really schyzophrenic but close…) said “Would you like me to sing to you?” and I was thinking “yes I haven’t heard some nice music in a while” and then the voice became a little scary telling me to turn left and right on the streets and then I saw this church, a Catholic cathedral I knew, and I thought why not enter. As I entered it inside there was a choir rehearsing Christian music. The choir was hidden from my view because they were at an upper store on top of the entrance. The catedral was empty, I was alone and this choir was singing. It was surreal.

I used to be the epitomy of the self sufficient man. I could do anything I wanted to do if I worked at it properly. I had proven this to myself and can still make a convincing argument of it to others. I was not religious and found no particular reason to be. I was agnostic rather than atheistic but while I was open to evidence of God, I was not looking very much.

Then my yougest son was killed by a hit and run driver and I found That for all my self sufficiency, I could not even protect my own family. I had to totally reevaluate my life. After 2 years of reading, study and prayer, CS Lewis (Mere Chritianity) and a non-Catholic, Christian friend, brought me back to the Catholic church. In both cases I was reading something and a voice in my head, clear as if it were standing behind me said, “There, that passage. That is what you need to know.”

I assume it was the Holy Spirit because He is the one who leads us to right teaching. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, who the Father will send in my name; He will teach you all things and bring to your rememberance all that I have said to you. (JN 14:26)

It took alot for Him to get my attention, but now I try harder to listen to that “still small voice”.

Patrick

In my experience there are many, many ways that the Holy Spirit touches us that are not immediately discernible as coming from Him; we often recognize His work in hindsight. And then there are other ways-much more rare- that leave no doubt whatsoever; years later we still know that we we had no part in orchestrating the event-another Party had the reigns. Those are incomparably profound.

I can tell you of two specific instances in which the Holy Spirit intervened directly (I’m sure there are many, many indirect ways that I’m unaware of- God does what He does!).
The first was when I was single, and working as a restaurant manager. I had attempted, and failed, many times to quit smoking cigarettes. Finally, on Ash Wednesday, I literally got on my knees in my apartment and said, “Lord, I can’t quit on my own. You are just going to have to heal me!”. From that moment, I never experienced any cravings for a cigarette; never overate or was irritable per my usual attempts. I even FORGOT that there was a full carton of cigarettes in my fridge!
The second was shortly after I was married, 23 years ago. Two days after our honeymoon, my husband lost his job. He had been offered a position in another city, and we went to a Pro-Life Mass. During the post-Communion song, I felt the Holy Spirit rush into my body. I have no idea how long He was with me; time stood still. But I felt the most full expression of His love for me - I cannot really describe it. As I felt Him “leave” (because we all know He’s with us always, really) me, I said out loud (I think) “Don’t go, don’t go!”. I never really knew WHY He visited me in that way until last summer, when I attended a Theology of the Body course. I saw a picture of a closeup of St. Teresa of Avila’s face in the sculpture by Bernini depicting her ecstasy of the Holy Spirit [https://goo.gl/images/w4GtdT] , and I KNEW that’s exactly what I had felt. God allowed me that close, deep ecstasy for that brief moment to show me how much He loves me, and to help me, because my marriage was already broken and I would be facing many years of trial.

What do you mean? Learning the holy spirit gifts from a Catholic perspectives?

Because generally this means the 7 gifts

What do you have in mind?

Wow @Mary888,

That is an awesome story!

It reminds me of a story from the hagiography of my patron saint, St. Spyridon the Thaumaturges, Bishop of Tremithus & Nicene Father:

"Once, he went into an empty church, and ordered that the lampadas and candles be lit, and then he began the service. When he said, “Peace be unto all,” both he and the deacon heard from above the resounding of “a great multitude of voices saying, “And with thy spirit.” This choir was majestic and more sweetly melodious than any human choir. To each petition of the litanies, the invisible choir sang, “Lord, have mercy.” Attracted by the church singing, the people who lived nearby hastened towards it. As they got closer and closer to the church, the wondrous singing filled their ears and gladdened their hearts. But when they entered into the church, they saw no one but the bishop and several church servers, and they no longer heard the singing which had greatly astonished them.”

I didn’t know this story.
I pray your patron Saint help you overcome all of your challenges that are consuming you in your life.
If he is the one who made this happen maybe he will listen to my humbled heart and my petition to God our Lord Jesus Christ through him.
Thank you for your reply.
God bless.
Thank you again.
