Your family's christmas 2013 plans

Hi everybody, what are you and your family plans for christmas eve and christmas day? Will you spend it at home or away? What will you eat?
 
Funnily enough, this year I don’t know my family’s plans, so I am having to be flexible (which is a struggle for a person who likes to plan with military precision). Christmas Eve I will go to mass. Christmas Day - mass, visit my mother in the care home, cook turkey for a school friend (maybe my brother will decide to come & maybe he and his wife will come). Two or maybe three days later, my other brother and his wife will come for dinner, possibly with or without my nephew and his wife. If they come on a Thursday we may have roast pork and apple sauce but if it is a Friday then it will be fish.
 
Survive somehow until December 26 when the shopping malls turn off that dopey music!🤷 Also my wife and I observe our 39th wedding anniversary Dec. 21 and the anniversary of my father’s death.🤷 (Note, I said OBSERVE my father’s death and celebrate our wedding anniversary ). Sadly our wedding anniversary gets shoved to the side by Christmas as did our wedding itself. The Protestant church where we had our wedding was decorated for a Christmas concert by their music department so our wedding got shoved into a small chapel in another building owned by the church.😊
 
My sister in law and I will go to Midnight Mass and then I will go to 10:30 Mass on Christmas Day with the Mister who doesn’t want to stay up that late (don’t worry, I won’t receive Holy Communion again LOL). Then he will be preparing pheasant for dinner. His sister (abovementioned sister in law), her husband, and Mister’s brother will be joining us. And I will be making deeeeelish eggnog. Except for the company for dinner and such Christmas is pretty low key at our house because it’s just the two of us.
 
There is nothing wrong if you receive communion again at the 10:30 Mass.🙂
 
Hubby’s leave cycle is the second one, which means he has leave for New Year’s, not Christmas. So, it will be just us two. We haven’t decided to go to Mass on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, yet. I will probably bake a ham. That is the traditional meat in my family for Christmas. Other than that, Christmas movies and cuddling on the couch, after opening gifts.
 
We go to my brother’s for Christmas Eve. He typically serves roast beef. My in-laws or at least my father in-law are coming over on Christmas Day. We will most likely make turkey.

Growing up we always had the party on Christmas Eve and a huge brunch on Christmas Day. I think my parents wanted to rest Christmas afternoon and evening since they worked the next day. It was nice though. I didn’t have to quickly unwrap my presents to be carted off to Grandmas like so many of my friends.

My husband and I spent our second Christmas Married like how I grew up. Our daughter was only a month old, and I was still recovering. It was one of the nicest Christmases. We sat around with our new little family and watched Christmas movies. 😃 My father in-law brought over his famous coffee cake and we enjoyed a quiet day.
 
I totally agree. I hate most Christmas carols (not hymns). They really get on my nerves. Unfortunately it is impossible to escape them. Dec. 26th. comes as a relief.
 
Hopefully we’ll have a repeat of last year. At least that is what we are planning on.

Christmas Eve Mass with the kids. Then we’ll come home and watch the Nativity Story (family tradition for us).

Christmas day we will be hosting dinner for both hubby and my parents as well as my sister, BIL and nephew.

Hubby will be cooking a roast. Sides include mashed potatoes, a vegetable, Boston baked beans, rolls and maybe another side (not sure what yet).

Last year was the first time we hosted and it came out fantastic. It might be a little bit crazy this year since we have two new additions to the family. My nephew will be 9 months and my second daughter will barely be a month old.

We will head off for Christmas Eve Mass at 4pm at our Parish, for some wonderful music and the children’s choir blessing us with their hard work. My youngest daughter, who happens to have been born on Christmas, will process in with the Baby Jesus and lovingly deposit Him in the manger in the Nativity scene in Church. Simple easy dinner in the crock pot that night, like chili. Christmas Day is usually a flurry of wrapping paper ‘ball’ fights, and a bunch of finger food (easily prepared dips like taco dip, chicken salad on crackers, etc. Try to keep the protein up!).
That’s our Christmas!! G’night!!
 
My parents, younger sister and I are staying home for Christmas Eve/Day. With all the crazies out there, we’d rather enjoy our time together at home rather than the emergency room. :o I don’t really know what we’re planning on eating to be honest! We usually wait until about a week before to decide what we’re going to make, but overall, we’ll probably just camp out in the living room, watch all the Christmas shows/movies we can cram into two days, and just be together. That’s my favorite part of Christmas, especially since many of our Christmases are spent apart.

One of the POP “Christmas” songs I really detest is “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” It is like, makes you wonder if Mommy is having an adulterous relationship or is Daddy dressed in a Santa costume? Also the song “All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth”:eek:
 
No plans at all. I have to work all the weekdays (industrial security does not get holidays), so the only Mass I can attend is the 4:00 Children’s Mass on Christmas Eve, which is always a goat-rope. And I’ll have to scurry to make it to that. I’ll crock-pot something, maybe a boneless turkey breast, make some sides when I get home, and that’ll be dinner.
 
Current plans are for a quiet Christmas Eve at home, mid-morning Mass on Christmas day and then off to my mom’s. We’ll spend Boxing day with in-laws.

Christmas Eve dinner is usually lentil soup (we abstain on Christmas Eve) and then a roast on Christmas Day. Since we will be catering dinner over at mom’s I may end up making the crockpot meal pictured above. 😛

As Ronald Reagan said, trust but verify LOL, so I asked a CA apologist and she said Yes I may receive both times. YAY! And thanks to you for setting me straight. 👍
 
My dh and I will be going to an annual family Christmas party at one of our niece’s house 12.14 and then to a KC assembly officer’s Christmas party 12.15. We only have to bring chips and dip to the family party, but we’re bringing a wild rice casserole to the KC party, which is a staple for us MNs. I also had baby shower this Dec. and a retirement party to go to, so we’re busier this year than most.

Dh has Christmas week off because the factory part of his company where he keeps the computers running will be closed that week. He’s taking some vacation days for that besides getting Christmas Eve and Day off, anyway. So, we’ll do some shopping for us two before Christmas Day and we’re going to a movie theater for “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”, which I’m really looking forward to seeing. Christmas we’ll go to Midnight Mass which starts at our parish at 11 PM. That day we’ll nap so we can stay awake for Mass. Christmas Day we’ll open gifts, watch TV (probably movies like “A Christmas Carol” and just veg around the house. I’m not sure what we’ll eat Christmas Day, but we’ll probably make a ham dinner. I only wish we could go camping the weekend before or after Christmas Day, but it’s a bit too cold for that with our little trailer. 😃

I have one. My parents got it for me.

The cool thing is, you can make an entire meal in it. It is also great for game day. Three different appetizers all at once. YUM.

Heck you can put canned veggies in it and just heat them up and keep them hot while you make the main dish.

How long does it take to cook food using it?
