La Chiara:
Oh no, I didn’t know that.:bigyikes: Now I am going to cringe when I drink my Starbucks coffee (home-brewed from Starbucks grinds). How do they support Planned Parenthood? I DO love my Starbucks coffee so. But I vehemently dislike Planned Parenthood. :crying:
Aww…you don’t need to feel bad. Maybe we should get together over some coffee sometimes. We might have to hide in the closet, lest we upset anyone here. :rotfl: We can invite" Momof3boys" too

You are on! (Though I don’t know about the closet stuff–that is associated with another vice that I DON"T have!) Tea is just not my thing. Nor is weak coffee.

Can you point these rules out and besides your wording is an invitation for some sort of response on a Catholic Forum…naturally.

is begging for a response here on Catholic Forums…in fact I think your response is more than brazen!
Ahem. She was right about the rules. She’s the only one who gets to say why it makes her feel guilty… unless, of course, someone else wants to add on with the admission that they do it, too. When your sin is the topic, by all means, pile it on! 😛

The point is that it is not immoral, per se, to purchase coffee from Starbucks. It is problematic, she admitted it, so the rest of us have to either commisserate with her dilemma or weakness or else leave her be. Those are the rules.

Something about that “burned” Starbucks gets you too huh??

P.S. If you get a chance and haven’t already…try their “Gold Coast” or “Rift Valley” 👍

This thread isn’t a confessional with a priest. Katie1723’s comment is well beyond the commiseration point. I will not sit tight and simply commiserate if someone has the audacity to write
My "guilty pleasures " are Books , music and a hefty dose of Starbucks…and YES, I KNOW they support Planned Parenthood.

~ Kathy ~
and then adverstise it around Catholic Answers in a signature. I refuse to stick my head in the sand. We should all see this and pray for katie1723. Katie1723 is not feeling guilty at all.

I speak for all the unborn children who cannot speak for themselves. Planned Parenthood doesn’t speak for these poor innocent.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but isn’t this whole Starbucks thing going too far? Are we supposed to ask people wherever we spend money if they support Planned Parenthood? “I’ll have a white mocha, oh and by the way, do you support Planned Parenthood?”
Or when I fill up my car with gas, should I ask around to see what every place supports?
My point is, it’s almost impossible to not shop at or spend money at places where we know for sure their beliefs are ours.
I do NOT support Planned Parenthood at all, but I am not going to stop going to Starbucks because someone on here says that they do. I bet if you went through the drive-thru of any Starbucks and asked if they knew whether or not the company they work for supports PP or not, they wouldn’t have a clue!

RIBS, messy, sloppy, greasy ribs, with lots of sauce, in the living room, not at the kitchen table…and use our shirts as napkins.

Nachos, with extra Cheese and lots of salsa:D Wash it down with diet Coke (hey got watch calories:p)

I’m really sorry, but no. This thread isn’t about the maintenence of absolute moral purity. It just isn’t a confessional. It isn’t even about looking for anyone to agree with us. It is, really, about what we* might* admit that we do if there weren’t so many people out there willing to jump all over us about it. It is about being willing to raise our hands and say, “Over here, count our family, too. Imperfect.”

Otherwise, you look at it as being willing to break bread with sinners. If you can’t see your way clear to do that without feeling you are condoning bad behavior, I’m really sorry. I think a blanket condemnation of what I suppose is my willingness to wink at sin is in order… and then maybe find another thread, perhaps? I hate to be inhospitable, but I think that once your point has been made, that’s about all you can do.

No guilt, except your guilt.

Our guilty pleasure is Domino’s pizza two for Tuesday night, buy one get one free, our kids automatically ask…is it Pizza night 😃

Ours is buying DVDs. We buy movies we like to watch over and over rather than rent.

Rationalization: They have to be mostly moral, and cannot be anti-Catholic. My husband in his pre-Catholic days liked a few movies that were not a good representation of the Church. I asked him to throw them away when he became Catholic. At first he said, “It’s JUST a movie!” I gave him a few “it’s JUST a [insert sin here]” and he gave up quietly.

I still feel guilty when money is so tight to spend it on something that takes up space and reminds us of what we spent. We have so few other pleasures that I have been able to rationalize this but it popped in my head as soon as I read the first post so I know I feel something strong.

littledeb, don’t feel bad, we do that too, we also check out dvd’s at our library, I had no idea they had them and then my daughter showed me and we were so thrilled and we are able to go online and request them and you get to keep them for a week, so that is really fun and free and tons to choose from, we love DVD’s so much easire than VHS 😃

You guys really need to get over the whole “support of PP” thing. Simply doing business with a company that “supports” PP in some unknown way does not make one morally culpable for what Planned Parenthood does. You want to boycott them? Fine, good for you. But please spare those of us with other concerns than Panned Parenthood the self-righteous attitude.

I will be brave since Kathy admitted her guilty pleasure. I too love Starbucks as does my husband.

Venti Carmel Machiatto fat free decaf.
(Hubby gets extra camel and all the caffiene they can give him.😃 )

Ok Rayne! When we get together…me…Momof3boys…LaChiara and anyone else brave enough to admit it, you bring your hubby for some Starbucks. We can have a taste test AND a good time.

And just for the record…I DO NOT support Planned Parenthood, but like Affirmed said**…" Simply doing business with a company that “supports” PP in some unknown way does not make one morally culpable for what Planned Parenthood does." Or perhaps like BLB_Oregon said: "It is, really, about what we might admit that we do if there weren’t so many people out there willing to jump all over us about it." It just so happens that I choose to pick my battles, and coffee (Starbucks or otherwise) just isn’t one of them.

Hi Kathy, I personally don’t like starbucks coffee its not my cup of tea:D But really, do these other people REALLY know who supports what? Some people got to get real. What if all electric companys supported PP would they live by candle light??? but what the heck, I’ll have a dougnut or something.

(No cups of tee, please! )

Not my family’s guilty pleasure, but mine, mine, mine – All Mine!

I love seafood, and look forward to Fridays in Lent.

ashamed,

As I see it, somewhere there is someone who supports something we don’t agree with. It is your right to buy/support/boycott whomever you wish. It’s part of being an American. But buying from a particular company who supports another company you don’t agree with does not mean anything other than the fact you like the product .

Being passionate and speaking your mind at the risk of ruffling some feathers is something my father taught me…“Don’t back down Katie if it’s something you believe in” Like I said, I try to pick my battles and coffee just isn’t one of them.

Now, Kay, at the risk of offending others, Starbucks sells TAZO teas. Perhaps one would meet with your tastes? Or perhaps I could suggest something nice from "The Republic Of Tea " line??

Now to get this thread back on track…

My family’s guilty pleasure is enjoying Cosmopolitans (vodka, cranberry juice, Cointreau, and lime juice) on sultry summer evenings. That’s not so bad, after all my husband and I are adults. The “guilty” part is that we taught our son how to make them when he was 12 (he’s 15 now). No, he doesn’t drink them himself.

So, we have a budding bartender – and that’s a skill that could earn him money some day.

I know there’s a thread about this on another board. If your money is paying for a legitimate service, your conscience should be clear :- ) We are not obligated to boycott. (obviously it’s fine if one chooses to do so)

I have a friend who was boycotting Ben and Jerry’s. Did she also boycott every grocery store that sells B&J? I doubt it. I know a number of women who travel well over an hour to see a pro-life OB-Gyn. Are all local, Catholic women obliged to do so? No.

I say, enjoy your Starbucks! —KCT
