What’s your fave part of The Bible–The Old Testament, The New Testament or both?

While I truly appreciate the NT (after all it is the book of the Catholic Church) I must admit I love the OT. The no-nonsense wisdom and wonderful history of the patriarchs, prophets and kings really appeals to me. I especially enjoy reading Deuteronomy. It may be because I am such an ancient history buff (I get a charge out of reading Will and Ariel Durant’s 11-volume “The Story of Civilization”).

God bless us all,
Paul

For me, they are inseparable! I believe it was St. Augustine who said the New Covenant is concealed in the Old while the Old Covenant is revealed in the New. Without each other, they don’t have nearly as much meaning or depth. How awesome is Our God??!!

I understand the importance of the Old Testament, but I believe that we must LIVE the New Testament if we are to call ourselves Christians.

Favorite from the Old Testament: Psalm 22
Favorite from the New Testament: John 6

I like what the Apostle Paul says about the transforming power of the revelation of Jesus when we see Him face to face.
He says, that we see now only dimly as through a glass and what we are to become is not certain, but this we do know, that is when Christ our hope shall appear, we shall appear and we shall be like Him. God Bless

I love the lyricism in the Old Testament… The Psalms, Song of Songs, Ecclesiastes (greatest philosophy book in the world!)…

However I find Truth really comes to me through the New Testament… So questions on the Faith- the New Testament, but appreciation of many Traditions, and spirituality, and visuals of God and His relationship with His people- the Old Testament.

Isaiah is EASILY my favorite Old Testament book. Maccabees is 2nd. 1&2 Samuel and 1&2 Kings is good reading as well.

The Gospel of John is my favorite New Testament book. Revelations is my favorite non-Gospel book.

John
Matthew
Luke
Mark
Revelation

I agree…

**The OT alone ** = a lock without a key, a promise without a fulfillment, a story without a plot

**The NT alone ** = an end without a beginning, a fulfillment without a promise

The New is in the Old concealed
The Old is in the New revealed
The New is in the Old contained
The Old is in the New explained

God Bless…

My favourite part fo the Bible?

In the OT I would have to say the story of young Tobias and Sara. I don’t know why, but it has always struck me as particularly indicative of the kind of love that we are called to give to each other. God first, then others, and finally ourselves.

In the NT I would have to say its close between the portrayal of Christ’s Passion from the Gospels of Matthew and John. Meditation on the Passion is particularly fruitful I find. What love God must have for us, sending His only Son, that we may have eternal life.

God bless,

Agricola
