And Katharine Hepburn together with Spencer Tracy is unbeatable. My favorite film with both of them is Adam’s Rib.

Sir Lawrence Olivier—my gosh, he was a chameleon–changing for every role.

Female, hmmmm, so many favorites, hard to pick one. Not one totally outstanding, as in the actor category.

Not to mention Olivier’s preeminence as a stage actor.

Oh, I like that one. It was remade a few years ago, but I haven’t seen that version. One Alec Guinness film I particularly like is The Horse’s Mouth. It was based on a Joyce Cary novel, but Alec Guinness wrote the screenplay. It has kind of a mischievous, light-hearted tone, and I always like watching it. I find it inspiring.

He supposedly changed the sing-song intonation characteristic of many other performers of Shakespeare, and instead spoke Shakespeare’s verses in a more natural manner.

You can for sure hear that in his Hamelt “to be or not to be” soliloquy.

I liked him in Rebecca. I miss TCM.

I am limiting my response to roughly 1970 - present.

Male - I want to say Clint Eastwood although the most convincing performance for me was George C. Scott in Patton.

Female - Sigourney Weaver has accomplished something in the 1980’s that really hasn’t been matched by any other female. She was able to headline an action role in a major movie franchise.
