Hi I’m a music artist who is starting out and i would like to know what your favorite part of the bible is? It can be a passage, story, or just section. I eagerly await responses.

I like the Proverbs and the Psalms. That is where most of my reading of the Bible is focused now a days.

God bless you

Historically a big fan of the parable of the lambs and the goats in Matthew 25, but since I’ve been reading the bible nightly (almost done with the pentateuch, starting Epistles of St Peter) I can’t honestly say what my fav parrt is. I can say Leviticus was hard to get through though, that’s about it. Not that I disliked it, but it was very legalistic and thus not quite as interesting.

Where to begin…

I, too like Matthew - 5, 6, 25, the Great Commission in 28
The Psalms - pick one!! - 19, 23, 24, 32, 51, 91, 121, 139, etc…
Job
Sirach
1 Corinthians 13
Revelation
Bread of Life Discourse - John 6
Ecclesiastes 3
Isaiah, esp. 11:6
John 10 - The Good Shepherd
Daniel 3, incl. - Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego

…and the list could go on and on…

One of my favorite parts is: Isaiah 49:16 — “see upon the palms of my hands I have carved your name” … 👍

“God saw all that he had made, and it was very good” (Gn 1:31)

What is the difference between “creator” and “craftsman”? The one who creates bestows being itself, he brings something out of nothing—ex nihilo sui et subiecti, as the Latin puts it—and this, in the strict sense, is a mode of operation which belongs to the Almighty alone. The craftsman, by contrast, uses something that already exists, to which he gives form and meaning. This is the mode of operation peculiar to man as made in the image of God. In fact, after saying that God created man and woman “in his image” (cf. Gn 1:27), the Bible adds that he entrusted to them the task of dominating the earth (cf. Gn 1:28). This was the last day of creation (cf. Gn 1:28-31). On the previous days, marking as it were the rhythm of the birth of the cosmos, Yahweh had created the universe. Finally he created the human being, the noblest fruit of his design, to whom he subjected the visible world as a vast field in which human inventiveness might assert itself.
LETTER OF HIS HOLINESS POPE JOHN PAUL II TO ARTISTS

I like the begining of the Gospel of St. John:

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.

3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

I like many of the smaller almost quotes that are teachings in both The Book Of Sirach & The Book Of Wisdom. I like reading about Elijah, as well as when Jesus explains what is called by the Catholic Church, “The Beatitudes.” I think my very favorite though is when Jesus goes off on the hypocrites & Pharisees in The New Testament in Mark Chapter 7 starting at about verse 8.

That’s easy for me. The Sermon on the Mount (or Plain), particularly in Matthew 5-7. Then, the Gospels overall.

Also, Proverbs (see below), and many of the Psalms.

These are some of my current OT favorites:

Ecclestiastes - “What now is has already been; what is to be, already is”

Wisdom - “if one loves justice, the fruits of her works are virtues; For she teaches moderation and prudence, justice and fortitude, and nothing in life is more useful for men than these.”

Amos - “Hate evil and love good, and let justice prevail at the gate”

Sirach - “Before all things else wisdom was created; and prudent understanding, from eternity.
To whom has wisdom’s root been revealed? Who knows her subtleties?
There is but one, wise and truly awe-inspiring, seated upon his throne;
It is the LORD; he created her, has seen her and taken note of her.”

Habakkuk - “Of what avail is the carved image, that its maker should carve it? Or the molten image and lying oracle, that its very maker should trust in it, and make dumb idols? But the LORD is in his holy temple”

Tobit - “Prayer and fasting are good, but better than either is almsgiving accompanied by righteousness”

And perhaps my very favorite, the Song of Songs:

“Set me as a seal on your heart,
as a seal on your arm;
For stern as death is love,
relentless as the nether world is devotion;
its flames are a blazing fire.
Deep waters cannot quench love,
nor floods sweep it away.
Were one to offer all he owns to purchase love,
he would be roundly mocked.”

Some of my favorite passages:

Acts 3:1-4
-One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!”

Luke 24:15-17
-And it happened that while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them, but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him. He asked them, “What are you discussing as you walk along?” They stopped, looking downcast.

Luke 8:43
-And a woman afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years, who (had spent her whole livelihood on doctors and) was unable to be cured by anyone, came up behind him and touched the tassel on his cloak. Immediately her bleeding stopped. Jesus then asked, “Who touched me?” While all were denying it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds are pushing and pressing in upon you.” But Jesus said, “Someone has touched me; for I know that power has gone out from me.”

Mk 10:21
-Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

And other passages such as these, where there is an intense, unique, deeply human interaction. Those moments of intensity really strike a chord with me.

My favorite section is: The Annunciation, Luke 1:26-38. I never get tired of reading it. It always reminds me how blessed Mary really is!

Two of my favorites are Proverbs and Sirach. 🙂

The parts that speak of God’s mercy.

The Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan and the Transfiguration are enormous events.

The passion narratives that show that God suffers because of our sins. The agony in the garden.

The Beatitudes

I cannot find any greater or simpler “blueprint” for how man should live according to God.

Christ spoke relatively little when compared to the entire NT, but boy did his wording “pack a punch” 🙂

Having had many habitual sins taken away from me, along with Mary I sing…

The Lord has done great things for me, and Holy is His name. (Luke 1:49)

-Tim-

Genesis 3:15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel."

Genesis 15:3 And Abram said, “Behold, you have given me no offspring, and a member of my household will be my heir.” 4 And behold, the word of the LORD came to him: “This man shall not be your heir; your very own son shall be your heir.” 5 And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 6 And he believed the LORD, and he counted it to him as righteousness.

These two passages put to lie all those who argue Christianity is an invention of the post Platonic Hellenised Roman world which gave rise to many such cults. Genesis establishes that God has purposed to save from the moment of the fall and that God will do this by the seed of the woman. And that the basis of this salvation will be faith in the promise and obedience to it in expectation of its fulfillment by grace and not Law.

God Bless

Old Testament: the talking donkey in Numbers, and the doggy in Tobit

New Testament: St.John, especially Jn 8

Psalm 42:4 from the Latin Vulgate: Et introibo ad altare Dei, ad Deum, qui laetificat juventutem meam

I also like the books Ecclesiasticus and Wisdom
