Here is one I ran across tonight…I really enjoy reading anything St Ignatius had to say…

St. Ignatius put it so simply:

We should use God’s gifts of creation however they help us in achieving the end for which we were created, and we ought to rid ourselves of whatever gets in the way of our purpose.
In order to do this we must make ourselves indifferent to all creation, to the extent that we do not desire health more than sickness, riches more than poverty, honor more than dishonor, a long life more than a short life, or anything at all in and of itself. We should desire and choose only what helps us attain the end for which we were created.

I was thinking that it might be inspiring to read some of our favorite quotes of saints…will you join in?🙂

Always good for a chuckle and to ponder on …

‘Lord, grant me chastity and purity - just not yet!’ (St Augustine)

And ‘Our hearts are restless until they rest in thee’ (also St Augustine)

The man had the best way with words.

Lord, shine your glorious light into the darkness of my heart”. I think that came from St. Augustine or St. Thomas.

Although it is more in the realm of Famous Last words, I have to admire VIVA CRISTO REY by the Blessed Miguel Pro, S.J.

Isn’t it St. Francis’ prayer before the crucifix?
“Most High, glorious God, enlighten the darkness of my heart.”
Sorry if I’m wrong, but this is my favourite quote currently.🙂
Enlighten the darkness of my heart…

AA’s book on the steps uses one of St. Francis’s prayers as part of step 11. “O Lord, make me an instrument of thy will…”🙂

That…your ideal, your vocation…is madness. And the others…your friends, your brothers…are crazy. Have you never heard that cry deep down inside? Answer, firmly, that you thank God for the honour of being one of those ‘lunatics’.

It’s what I pray when Father raises the Host during the Eucharist Prayer. It just seems so appropriate.

I think it was St. Ignatius who said “I will believe white to be black if the Church says it is so”

I am the same way. I don’t have to believe everything the Church teaches outside faith and morals, but I know it to be so true and grand and holy that if they tell me white is black I will completely back that up.

That is great! I absolutely adore St Igantius’ teachings…I’m grateful to God for enlightening him to help us all.👍

“Christ said, ‘I am the Truth’; he did not say ‘I am the custom.’”-- St. Toribio

“Truth suffers, but never dies.”–St. Teresa of Avila

“All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle.”–St. Francis of Assisi

"The entire world in fact cannot enjoy true peace if it is not of one fold and one shepherd. "-- Bl. Pius IX

“Tribulation is a gift from God–one that he especially gives His special friends.”–St. Thomas More

“To receive the grace of God you must go to the desert and stay awhile.”–Bl. Charles de Foucauld

Yes, I surrender. Nike was pagan. 😦

Those are great. I love Thomas More (and I’ve only read quotes).

What a man is in the eyes of God; that he is, and nothing more. - St. Francis of Assisi

I do so love that one, too.

Don’t forget Saint Francis:
Preach the Gospel daily. And if necessary, use words” (And yes, I have heard several variations of this one).

We cannot be sure whether we are loving God, although we may have good reason for believing that we are. But we can know quite well whether we are loving our neighbor.
