Whether it’s music, paintings, architecture, sculpture… I’d like to know: What’s your favourite Catholic piece of art?
I can tolerate anything except something made of entirely useless, meaningless splatters and splotches, chunks of metal with barely a form, and frantic collections of acute angles, no matter how much “love” and “passion” and “his life’s agony” was put in it.
Spot on, my friend.Essentially I can appreciate anything except the majority of modern art, which I find totally and entirely and absolutely and positively irreconcilable with 99.999% of what came before it, and therefore I cannot respect it in an academic or thematic or artistic sense. It cannot be reconciled.
Medieval Cathedrals and especially the stained glass.Whether it’s music, paintings, architecture, sculpture… I’d like to know: What’s your favourite Catholic piece of art?![]()
My absolute favorite. The Pieta by Michelangelo. Linked here
Dali did some really amazing art; I love his version of the last supper.I love all types of sacred art, some better than others, but if I had to pick a favorite painting, it would be probably be Rembrandt’s “Return of the Prodigal Son” or maybe Salvador Dali’s “The Last Supper”

However, I think my favorite is his painting of the crucifixion, “Corpus Hypercubus.”
