Pope Benedict XVI (though I after St. Peter…after all he is Peter!)
 
I really have ahrd time choosing-so I chose all of them! I ESPECIALLY love our current Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI! I think is a wonderful Pope! I didn’t include him on the list, because I wanted to know peoples favourite Popes gone by!
But, thou art more and welcome to post other favourites that are not on the list.

How did I know you would post that! I had it on my blog a few days ago! I love that hymn SO MUCH! It is so beautiful! It should be in more hymnals and sang much more than waht it is!

I posted my list of favorite popes, then it took me back to the thread. I saw the “Long live the Pope!” in your signature and it reminded me of the song!

I voted for Venerable Pope John Paul II, Pope Saint Gregory the Great, and Pope Saint Peter. I really don’t know a lot about the others.

I can’t say for certain, but Bishop Schneider is the celebrant, so my guess is it may be Maria Mother of the Church Cathedral in Karaganda.

He certainly is. His book Dominus Est is wonderful.

As for my favourite Pope - I hope St Peter goes without saying. There have only been two Popes in my lifetime - Pope John Paul II & Pope Benedict XVI. I have such huge admiration for the current Holy Father - he is getting so much criticism these days, but I am sure that he is doing great work as the successor of Peter. He celebrated Holy Mass few months ago in l’Aquila to mark the 800th anniversary of Pope Saint Celestine V’s birth, and I was touched as I watched the people present the gifts to the Holy Father at the Offertory: a true shepherd, showing great care for those who approached him with the gifts. May he have many more years.

For what he did in the area of sacred music, I am grateful to and greatly admire Pope Saint Pius X.

You make me feel old. I was born just a few months before Pius XII died, so in my lifetime that makes Pius XII, John XXIII, Paul VI, John Paul I, John Paul II and Benedict XVI, a total of 6!

Although I didn’t vote for him I do agree that his role in the revival and standardization of Gregorian chant is much appreciated.

Consider it a privilege rather than a reminder of your age 🙂 - the twentieth century was blessed with many great pontiffs, and you were lucky to live through some of their reigns. I hope I will live to see a few more good and holy popes!
