Mine was the best ever because I followed the advice of a priest friend of mine and gave up nothing. Instead I cut everything in half, i,e 1 cup of coffee instead of 2 in the morning, half a piece of cake if someone really wanted me to have some. No second helpings of anything, and each week it got easier. The hardest part of all, and very sadly that has happened every year, I always have people who are unsupportive of my Lenten Fast and encourage me not to follow. Incredibly, some of them are even Catholic.
What a wonderful thing fasting is. In addition to all the spiritual benefits, my blood pressure has improved very noticeably.

Mine went well. I did the traditional Eastern fast and lost about 5 lbs and definitely focused on the reason for fasting more. I should have prayed a bit more but as a family we did say the traditional Prayer of St. Ephraim most nights.

I think my first timing doing this fast went better than this time…that was back in Nov for the Nativity fast. This time it was longer and a bit harder and I am really craving eggs, bacon and cheese!

While we aren’t required to give anything up for Lent, at the last minute, I decided to try and go without caffeine. I’m not a coffee drinker (can’t stand it), but I drink a lot of pop and bottled tea during the day at work. A day or two into Lent and I quickly realized that your choices at the work place vending machines were quit limited! Can’t wait for that pop Sunday morning (it’s my coffee)!

3 years ago I used to get phenomenal BP readings any hour of the day, but recently, while they haven’t become dangerous, they’ve gone up noticeably on days that I don’t go to the healthclub. So, what finally got people to stop trying to offer me fast food and sweets when I was fasting, was to simply tell them that before Lent my BP was probably averaging around 134-82, and now it’s around 115-68 every day.
