m134e5;4681981]It seems irrelevent whether or not the Novus Ordo is true to the council.** Pope Paul VI promulgated the Novus Ordo- **and he was just as much within his authority to do so as Pope St. Pius V was when he mandated that the Tridentine Mass be used everywhere in the Latin Rite
Are you saying that Pope Paul VI promulgated the Novus Ordo that many of us pray today? With CITH, EXTRAordinary Eucharistic Ministers used in ordinary circumstances? Altar girls?
NO Latin, no Gregorian Chant??
I also join with Deacon Ed. B., in asking “Who is ‘us’, and by what authority do you judge whether the Mass is true to the council?”
The authority I use in determining whether the priests at the parish I used to attend are following the intent of the Council & more importantly the Holy Father…are the documents of Vatican II. Have you read them? You do realize that neither the council nor the Holy Father said that the Mass must be said completely in the vernaculur. They didn’t say that Communion was to be given in the hand. They didn’t say that Gregorian Chant was to be replaced by Bob Dylan, nor did either the council or the Pope say that EEM’s were to be used regularly…so regularly that a schedule must be drawn up so that they will know when they are to serve.
Now, most intelligent & knowlegeable Catholics believe that if the council & the Pope had specifically wanted the above changes (i.e. No Latin in the Mass & no Sacred Music, CITH instead of on the tongue, the use of EEM’s to be universal…under any & all circumstances, etc.)…
#1. They would have addressed these concerns, in a clear cut way…without ambiguity…as previous councils have addressed issues that required change or definition.
#2. The self-same issues that appear in
every Novus Ordo Mass that I have attended for the last 40 yrs…
Communion in the Hand & the disregard for the discipline that calls for only males to serve at the altar would not have required an indult & special permission in order to be considered “legal”.
The Tridentine Mass I used to go to was pretty sloppily done, which is why I no longer go there.
Hopefully you’ll explain what you mean by “sloppily done”.
Most of the Novus Ordo Masses I have gone to have been done very reverently. There have been a few crazy ones, but those have been the exception rather than the rule- and VERY few even come close to what I have heard described here.
So, you are saying that MOST of the Novus Ordo Masses you’ve attended, included Latin, Gregorian Chant, Altar BOYS only, CITH & the use EEM’s** only** under extraordinary circumstances. Is that correct?? If so, do you believe that because
you haven’t experienced this, it doesn’t exist?
A true traditional Catholic would have much more respect for the priesthood than I have seen many so-called traditionalists show.
Oh, Of course, they have certain priests they wait on night and day, but the ones who don’t fit their standard of perfection just get the cold shoulder (at best). Perhaps St. Josemaria Escriva said it better than I can: if you do not have the highest respect for the priesthood and the religious state, you certainly don’t love God’s Church!
I have no idea what you are referring to when you say that we “have certain priests that we wait on night & day”. It sounds as if we’re serving serving them food & cleaning up after them???
Also, St Josemaria Escriva is right…one must have the utmost respect for the priesthood for it was instituted by Christ. It’s probably because of the fact that I hold it in such high regard that it pains me so when one of our priests dishonors this holy state.
