Hi! This is my first, of many I hope, on CA. I’m not sure if I’m supposed to make a thread for things like this, but I need your prayers.

This is a bit out of character for me, I’ve never been very religious, but recently I’ve become fascinated with the Catholic Church. I’ve spent the last several months taking in as much as I can about the church; I’ve learned a lot over these last months, and I’m heavily considering converting to Catholicism. (I was raised a non-denominational Protestant) I just ask that you all will say a small word for me in your prayers. Thank you! 🙂

Well, you certainly have my prayers. Is there something you would like to know about Catholicism? Do you have any questions? Anyway, welcome.

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death
Amen.

St. Jude, pray for him!

It may not be something you want to get into right now, but it would be interesting to know a little something of the beliefs of that non-denominational church you attended previously and what you’re seeing in contrast with Catholicism that makes it so appealing. Have you been attending a Catholic church? Sometimes the best way to get to know more about a church is to just go to it for a while and participate as much as a non-member can. I’m sure you’ll find people there happy to answer any questions you might have or recommend books suited to your areas of interest.

Thank you all so much! 🙂

Thank you, I’ve had all of my original questions answered; I’m currently reading up on the structure of the church. 👍

I don’t know if you guys have ever heard of Chick Publishing or not, but they’re rabidly anti-Catholic. I go to a protestant high school, and my Spanish teacher was having me translate one of their comics. While I was reading it I was shocked by how little I knew about the Catholic Church; I knew, obviously, it wasn’t responsible for the Holocaust, Communism, the KKK, Nazis, and ect. However, beyond that I didn’t know a lot at all. So, as with most things I don’t know a lot about, I try and learn as much about it as possible. For an entire week I spent almost all my free time listening to arguments from both sides, learning what the church believed and taught, and eventually made my way to CA. (I’ve been lurking here awhile)

A few weeks had passed and it was time to for me to read the comic, in English and Spanish, to the whole school, which consists of twenty-one people. By that time I had to tell him I couldn’t in good conscience lie about the Catholic Church to my entire school. Needless to say he wasn’t very happy, but oh well…I graduate soon anyways. 😉

I just thought those of you who know about the Chick comic books would find it deliciously ironic that one led someone to Catholicism. 😃

Holy Spirit, guide your servant AFinley to where you want him to be. Amen.

May you be blessed you in your journey.

Hi AF -

Your not the first one to come to the Catholic Church through the comic books of chick. But you may be the latest. 🙂 Congratulations!
