My Rosary routine isn’t set in stone, but I do pray the Rosary daily as of late. The intentions vary depending on where I pray it and whether I pray it alone or with others.

A note regarding the Luminous Mysteries… I don’t reject them and will pray them along with the laity before noon Mass on Thursdays, but other than that I stick with the traditional method. And on Thursdays when I do pray the Luminous Mysteries before Mass, I still pray the entire Rosary in the traditional manner later in the day.

The above link will allow a download of With God by Fr. F.X. Lasance. On page 547 you will find The Eucharistic Rosary. I’m blessed to have a Perpetual Adoration Chapel in my parish and can go there anytime day or night. I’ve begun praying the Eucharistic Rosary before The Blessed Sacrament there.

I don’t have a daily habit of praying the rosary, but after I finish my current novena, I’m going to make a solid effort to incorporate it into my daily prayer life.

I’ve been trying to attend Adoration a few times a week, so when I’m able to be in the presence of our Lord, I’ll usually pray the rosary and Divine Mercy chaplet quietly to myself.

Otherwise, I’ve usually been praying it at home, oftentimes in the evening where I’ll fall asleep while praying. I bought 2 wonderful albums off of iTunes entitled ‘Praying the Rosary with St. Therese of Lisieux,’ and when I’m home alone, I’ll usually pray along with these audio versions. Before each decade, they’ll read out an excerpt from St. Therese’s writings that correspond to the different fruits of the mysteries. It’s not as robotic as many audio rosaries are. It’s quite lovely and helps me to stay more focused when I pray.

St. JPII said that the Luminous mysteries are optional. I like praying the Luminous as a chaplet in additional to the mysteries Our Lady gave us, not in place of them.
Can you explain how to pray it as a chaplet?

Shorter Christian Prayer is very good and easy to use.
Easy to use? Please, do tell! I actually came here tonight looking for tips on understanding the SCP book as between my paper copy, my app and what I watch live online is all slightly different. Then I got engrossed in this thread, so here’s my latest rosary routine which often changes:

I’ve been praying the rosary daily the past month or so after feeling prompted to at a Marian shrine. I’ve done this before, but my usual habit is every so often, probably average of once a week.

I always go with what I thought was the Church order: S-glorious, M-joyful, T-sorrowful, W-glorious, R-luminous, F-sorrowful, S-joyful.

My current way of praying is I’ll first of all tell the LORD all my intentions for that day and pray the rosary for them. Most are the same from day to day, most personal intentions, but I also include Pope Francis, world peace and religious freedom. I then usually pray the first part (before the decades) right away, following my normal daily prayers (currently 5 brief one’s).

After breakfast and before work, I’ll sit before my home altar and pray at least 2 decades. Sometimes it’s more, sometimes it’s the entire rosary depending upon the day, what time it is, how late or early I am for work, etc. On the weekends I’ve mostly been praying the entire rosary there. (meaning the day’s 5 decade rosary)

Then usually at lunch break, I’ll pray the rest. If I walk that day I’ll pray it then, otherwise whenever/wherever I can. I don’t pray it while driving as I want to meditate on the mysteries which is too much multi-tasking and distracting. I often like to park in a nearby parish parking lot facing where the tabernacle is in the chapel there and just pray in my car.

Usually takes me about :25. Since I’m praying it every day I’ve developed the meditative part much better.

Saw this quote not long ago you all might also enjoy:

“No one can live continually in sin and continue to say the Rosary: either they will give up sin or they will give up the Rosary” (Bishop Hugh Doyle)*

I have prayed the Rosary on several occasions. I either pray for someone while saying the Rosary, or I pray the 5 Mysteries (whichever is appropriate for that day of the week) - one five decade rosary.

My goal is to pray the Rosary everyday, but I have miserably failed so far in praying the Rosary everyday.

I love your habits. I usually like one of my 2 bracelet rosaries. One came from The Vatican, one was a baptismal gift. I pray way more when Im stressing, or am tempted.
I have a beautiful rosary that was sent to me from Paris, France by my granddaughter – I carry it with me always – the first two decades I say with my first cup of coffee – the next decade I say at my computer when I’m checking to see what’s going to be on EWTN that day – the next decade I say when I’m walking to public transportation or to Church – and the last decade I say before I turn out the light at night - I couldn’t get along without my rosary – it truly keeps me"going"!!!

I have loved reading this thread… I absolutely LOVE praying the rosary, in fact I’ve been doing it since I was a child although I’m just now converting (will be confirmed and take first communion probably near the end of summer!).

I wake up at 4:00am every morning, get a cup of coffee, and pray as many decades as I can before the baby wakes up and needs to be fed. Even though I can’t hold my beads while I feed my baby son in the dark, I keep track in my head and pray it while I rock him back to sleep.

I am a nurse and do a lot of walking down the halls of the hospital… I always say either an Our Father, a Hail Mary, or a Salve Regina as I walk, it is so calming.

At lunch I pray 5 decades (unless I have something else I absolutely have to do, but I always prefer to pray at lunch, it centers me back to a peaceful place before the rest of my day begins).

At night after the babies are asleep, and I’ve finished my nightly reading and regular prayers, I lay in bed and pray my rosary but I often fall asleep before I can finish, and I figure that’s ok because the Lord and the Holy Mother at least know that I was thinking of them until my very last moment and I can’t believe they have a problem with that. 🙂

If I have an addiction to anything, I think it is praying the rosary!

Why do you skip the Luminous?
It’s the life of Christ, His public ministry. It’s likely VERY pleasing to Our Lady to remember the life of her Son.
The Luminous mystery are optional. Our Lady gave St.Dominic the Traditional 3 mysteries. I say the Traditional 3 everyday.

That’s absolutely lovely. I hope someday I have that level of devotion to Our Lady.

I’m a member of the Confraternity of the Rosary and aim to say the Glorious, Luminous and Sorrowful Mysteries once a week each. Before or after Mass or during Adoration, or maybe while walking I find are the easiest times to focus. I also have a few idiosyncrasies in how I pray the Rosary - I use the Nicene Creed not the Apostles because I know if better and say it in the Ordinariate form, and I say “Holy Ghost” in the Glory Be. At the end, I say a Glory Be in Latin. This is my way of incorporating some traditional practices from both Catholic traditions and my Anglican patrimony into my devotions. I’d like to learn to say all the prayers in Latin, but that will be quite challenging I imagine.

I too am in a similar situation to you. I am still considering Catholicism but I have begun to pray the Rosary. Normally I pray it for myself, to memorise and to learn the Mysteries, however, I fail to pray the Rosary everyday, but I find that the Rosary Army podcasts are most helpful.

I love my Rosary and it goes everywhere with me – it’s beautiful and was sent to me by my grandaughter from Paris from Notre Dame of Paris – I say the first two decades with my first cup of coffee in the morning – the next decade when I’m going to Mass – a decade when I’m walking to public transportation, etc., etc. The last decade I save for when I turn out the light at night when I’m trying to get to sleep – I couldn’t get through the day without it.

I pray at least 5 decades every day plus the 7 Sorrows Rosary (Servite). Every Sunday I lead the Rosary before our Sung High Mass. It takes me 18 minutes to complete. I set a steady pace that is reverent. So far on one has complained.

As a side note, I have never prayed the Luminous Mysteries, mainly because they are not traditional. I know many folks like them and that is certainly their choice. I just do not like to stray from tradition.

Of all the Decades, this is the only one I actually need to keep my Rosary card to recite. Otherwise I cannot remember what the mysteries are, or the little blurb of text that accompanies.

Your post has me wondering whether I might revert to the traditional Rosary habit - I find it hard to concentrate on the Luminous mysteries as opposed to the others.

I am not particularly fond of the rosary and it is always the first thing to drop from my prayer life. I usually pray it Saturday mornings when I make my 1 1/2 mile walk to morning mass and so usually say the joyous mysteries (glorious during Easter, sorrowful during Lent). If I am seated somewhere where I can read along, I like to do the Carthusian/Life of Christ Rosary which takes you through a different moment of Jesus life on each Hail Mary.

The Life of Christ Rosary sounds like a wonderful Rosary!

I had never heard of the Life of Christ Rosary. After looking it up, I’m going to have to add that to my prayer life. That is so beautiful…

It is beautiful! It makes me very happy and I find it easier to focus on than the Dominican rosary. I still do the Dominican if I am walking or in a group but I feel closer to Jesus doing the Life of Christ Jesus.Usually there will be 3-5 points where something speaks to me that day and I just drift into a loving contemplation of that mystery.

For me, I enjoy the Luminous as much as the others. It’s sort of like the Deuterocanonical books of the OT compared to the non-Catholic Bibles without them as it fills a gap. In this case, in the life of Christ.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind there being even more mysteries of even more aspects of the life of Christ! Variance keeps things fresher for me.

All just IMHO of course. 😃

I composed such a rosary which sold through Our Sunday Visitor a few years ago, but when the Luminous Mysteries came out, they decided to not reprint my book. I think it was a mistake, but I’m not in the publishing business. Perhaps I should remind them that they have it. Maybe they’d reissue it, so people can benefit from using it., once again It has 5 mysteries for each day beginning with Mary’s Immaculate Conception. It includes things like the Flight into Egypt, Jesus’ Baptism, the Wedding at Cana, etc. I dedicated Saturdays to Mary and started Mondays with Jesus’ birth. It was called “The Beautiful Gate Rosary.” I doubt there are any copies out there, but a Google search might find one for you. I have it on my computer, of course. Not trying to sell you anything–just letting you know it’s possible to reflect on more than the traditional mysteries. I simply did the work so others wouldn’t have to–hopefully it wasn’t in vain. :o
