…On the other hand Jesus gave us his mother. What are we then? Her children? Thus Jesus is our brother? She is the mother of the Church?
How do you meditate on this in your daily life?
DearJesusmademe,
Yes! Jesus gave us His Mother!!! This is significant for all of us. Yes! We are then her children, and this too is significant for all of us. God sent His Son born of a woman, Immaculate Mary of Nazareth who said “Yes” to Him and by the power of the Holy Spirit brought forth Jesus to live and die for us all.
Yes! Jesus is our Brother because God willed Him to be born of a human mother and thus take to Himself our human nature that He might suffer and be for us a Saviour. He is our Brother, Son of God and Son of Mary. He is the Word made flesh Who dwelt among us teaching, revealing God in all He said and did. Mary pondered all He said and did in her heart and thus is a Model for us.
Yes! Mary is Mother and Model for the Church. We speak to her as Jesus did in love for her Whom God loves. We hear Jesus say to us:
By God’s Grace we meditate on all that God’s Word tells us, especially in the Gospel of Luke but in all the Gospels and even in the Old Testament we see how God prepared to save us in Genesis 3:15 –
I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;
They will strike at your head,
while you strike at their heel
Jesus gave Mary to us from His Cross and when we meditate on His words, we do well to be helped by St. John Paul II who wrote that the words were not meant just for John the beloved disciple but for all of us and we learn from John to take Mary, not just into our home (as it has been translated) but into our lives. St. John Paul II pointed out that the Gospel of John written in Greek does not include the word “home” in Jn. 19:27 The Greek words literally translated mean “the disciple took her into his own”. St. John Paul II explains this means John took Mary into his life, into his very being, which gives us a far deeper meaning into St. John Paul II’s Papal Motto, “Totus Tuus” meaning “All Yours” (taken from St. Louis de Montfort’s treatise on "
True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin".
When I meditate on Mary I cannot think of her without thinking of Jesus and in fact the Holy Trinity. God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, chose Mary to be Mother of Jesus and our Mother that we might learn what wonders He works in a human person who gives ALL to Him. Hope that helps a bit.
