like a “disruption” to you, but ***may ***to others, fair?So then you are saying it would be okay to shout “AMEN”? As long as it’s not an extreme “AMEN”? I have nothing against NIKE, but their choice of mottos may give a strikingly familiar ring to some of our permissive ideas or impulsive passions in this present culture. Many forms of worship, which differ greatly-as you so rightly pointed out below-may not seem
I have nothing against Tiger Woods personally, but the scandal he has caused to so many by his unbridled inclinations to “JUST DO IT”. Most of us sinners do benefit from a well formed conscience in the Teachings of the Gospel and the wellspring of graces that flow from the Sacramental life of the Church. You are right, none of us have a guarantee of salvation,we call that “presumption” in the Catholic Church. What we do have is repentance and forgiveness and then a firm purpose of amendment to “go and sin no more…”(Jesus’ words to the woman caught in adultery)
Ahhh, my friend! Now you have touched on the crux of the matter…**In Matthew 16:18, Jesus creates and builds His Church (not “churches”) on Peter, the Rock. Notice also that even hell can’t stop the everlasting existence of His Church.
**
** "And I say to you, that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it. " **
In the following verse 19, Jesus gives Peter the keys to the kingdom.
** "And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound, even in heaven. And whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed, even in heaven.” **
God Bless you!
- If its not what you want to do then “don’t do it.” It also depends on your church, to some it may not be disruptive, to you it may be, its not part of your religion. The AMEN part is hard to explain in writing but no matter how I put it you won’t agree or put some type of extreme slant on it.
Amen: is used to express solemn agreement or hearty approval.
As far a the Nike thing goes, give me a break.
The Tiger Woods things. If someone askes me should I go to church and I say "Just do it’ would you put it in the same catagory as the Tiger Woods scandal? Its the same words.
Go and sin no more, how many actually don’t sin anymore after being told that?- And who is the church? Christ is the church and Peter is to build on the teachings of Jesus and what Jesus taught the gates of hell will not prevail. The key is the opportunity to bring people to the Kingdom of Heaven by presenting them with the message of salvation found in God’s Word. We cannot decide to open or close the Kingdom of Heaven for others, but God uses us to help others find the way inside. To all who believe in Christ and obey his words, the Kingdom doors are swung wide open.
