O rly?

Actual proof please. Quotes even, if possible.

As for Hitchens:

“Religious faith is, precisely because we are still-evolving creatures, ieradicable. It will never die out, or at least not until we get over out fear of death, and of the dark, and of the unknown, and of each other. For this reason, I would not prohibit it even if I thought I could. Very generous of me, you may say.”

Well then apparently he should tell that to his fellow big-time atheist Richard Dawkins because he on the other hand is seems all too eager to get rid of religion.

Wouldn’t want to sound like a hypocrite now would he?

Yeah, but that’s Richard Dawkins. Atheism isn’t a religion, it’s just a belief; there is a fine line. In a two-hour conversation between Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Daniel Dennet, and Sam Harris–it’s called “The Four Horsemen” in case you wanna see it on YouTube-- Christopher Hitchens admits to wanting religion around, for the sake of arguing against it to others. :rotfl: The others didn’t necessarily agree, I don’t think.

The point is, you’ll find different types of Atheists with different views just as you would see Christians within your own denomination with different views of God. It has nothing to do with hypocrisy.

I’ve heard of the The Four Horsemen though haven’t watched because I just can’t stand these guys (the same way atheists probably can’t stand our prominent religious figures).

However, if there are different types of atheists the same way you get different types of Christians wouldn’t that actually be a sign of division?

And is not division one of the biggest shortcomings of any belief system? (Regardless if you see it as a religion or not)

Oh yeah, but people within a group are generalized and stereotyped; when you learn about an individual of any group (Nonbelievers, especially), you tend to realize that people are just different in beliefs. We’re not just clones of one another.

Yeah but the point is, if atheists are disagreeing on matters that they oughta be agreeing on wouldn’t that lead to disunity and lead to a slow but inevitable demise to their movement? I mean surely even the Catholic Church has set down the basic doctrines that all the different religious orders within it can unite upon and these doctrines are crucial.

It’s just that to me, what you said about Hitchens and the other famed atheists actually disagreeing on a very important issue is quite big. If he does not believe that religion/theism can be eradicated while the others do (vehemently and with much enthusiasm if I may add), whats he going to do when the likes of Dawkins take their campaign to a higher level? I mean the guy’s already deploying public advertisements for crying out loud. That’s not a good sign.

The thing that Atheists generally agree on: Religion is dangerous if practised irresponsibly, God does not exist, Freethought should definitely be put into affect, children should be able to choose their own religious path (if any).

If Atheists are on a mission (which I’m sure they are ), I feel confident in saying there would be little to no blood spilled.

But, as for your previous post (which I apologize for not answering, by the way), I don’t blame you for not watching Atheist videos such as “the Four Horsemen” conversation. Hardly any religious people do. But, I must comment that nonbelievers do, indeed, watch religious videos. You can tell because the comment section of those videos are no more than halfway filled with Atheists and other nonbelievers.

Besides, it is a risky move to watch those videos. You tend to leave your faith behind. 🤷

You might wanna see what the more ‘outspoken’ ones have to say about that.

Which is what ticks me off about YouTube atheists in general. I mean I have enough on my plate trying to smack down the crazy fundamentalist street preachers on that site and now I’ve got to deal with these guys invading the more peaceful religious videos with their obnoxious rhetoric.

Will this silliness ever end?

Nah, I just don’t like the air of arrogance theses big-timers exhume.

So long as there are fundamentalists, there will be hardcore Atheists. And so long as there is religion and belief, there will be nonbelievers of any kind.

But, there is a beauty to Atheism: You shouldn’t ever have to worry about an Atheist neighbor threatening your life because of what you believe in. Generally speaking, hardly any of them care, no matter how outspoken they are, you normally wouldn’t find an Atheist dying for the sake of killing others because of religious convictions… because they have none.

I originally would dare you to watch “The Four Horsemen” but that may be against the rules here, so I won’t. 😛

Another thing: Don’t be too worried about the hardcores (Atheist or Christian) because they will most likely disregard you as most disregard me and others.

True that, but this is YouTube we’re talking about here. A bigger internet megaphone, you cannot find. It’s the potent way they’ve been spreading their influence with that site that’s got me me bugged up about it. The same thing can be said of the Jack-Chick-olytes videoing themselves with their confrontational, fundamentalist picket signs.

Can anyone say Communism?

(Atheism is dangerous if practiced irresponsibly.)

As is religion. Atheism isn’t necessarily something you can practice; it’s just something you are or something you become.

Mind you, Capitalism is probably the most un-Christian monetary system. Not saying I’m for or against anything… for now. 🙂

Atheism is a belief (it takes a leap of faith to believe that no God exists) and that belief can be taken to extremes as was witnessed in Communist countries.

But, one must ask themselves, “Hey, where are all the Christian/Catholic celebs?”
One I can think of offhand is VenomFangX. Although he is more infamous than famous. 😛

Personally my favorite atheist Youtuber is rkzenrage.

We are all atheists to an extent; it’s just that I believe in one less god than monotheists. Certainly it takes no faith to know that Zeus and Thor are not real.

Belief in a deity is not innate; it is taught. It takes faith to believe in something in which there is no evidence for its existence. Feeling that something is real or holding a belief that something is real does not mean that it is real.

As for the second portion, I recommend reading this short FAQ.

Personally I find it amusing myself but a bit sad a the same time considering that atheists are often the first in line to deal with fundamentalists like that.

Take a look at what this nice Catholic chap has to say about such people.

I agree with him heavily on this one. We oughta start cleaning out the religious crazies on our side of the fence and stop letting the atheists do it for us.

I’ve just been watching his apology to Thunderf00t - it was a very painful experience, & not one to repeat. It must have been awful for him 😦 I see what you mean by “infamous”. Some of the comments on VFX’s video are very mean-spirited, & lack any generosity, compassion or magnanimity.

Have you met any followers of Asatru, or any Odinists 🙂 ? I think attempts to revive defunct religions are artificial - how can there be Pharaonic religion where there is no Pharaoh ? 🤷

Ahh, yes. Pat Condell is just great! His “Curse of Faith” video is my favorite! :yup:
