YouTube Video on "10 Bizarre Lost Traditions of the Catholic Church"

I just watch this video and thought it was somewhat nit picky in some of the points made in it. The last one on the Virgin Mary didn’t even count as a Tradition so I think the Video is just trying to point out flaws in the Catholic faith.

I haven’t watched the video itself due to lack of time. However this list of so-called “lost traditions” seems inconsistent. Clearly the person who made this video has a superficial knowledge of Catholicism. And a bias.
 
I was amazed at all the half-truths this presentation is loaded with!

The “suicide” thing is just plain wrong. I have read a lot of the ancient Church Fathers and Councils and without “TopTenz” presenting any evidence on this YouTube video, I have to assume this guy here is misinformed or just making this stuff up.

Old Testament “circumcision is not “superseded” by the “New Testament “because the tenets of the New Testament are supposed to supersede the tenets of the Old Testament.” This is non-sense.

Baptism FULFILLS circumcision.

Jesus FULFILLS the law and in doing so, mere rituals serve as foreshadowings of greater things to come (as Hebrews 10:1 says) and morally in Jesus fulfilling the law, we now are held to a higher standard (i.e. lust and Matthew chapter 5).

Indulgences were NEVER “monetary purchases of salvation!”

Etc. etc.

This guy has no idea what “infallibility” is and is NOT.

“TopTenz” narrator’s points would have been laughable had they not been so uninformed and pathetic.

His invention of infallibility comments at the first Vatican Council (in the late 1800’s) is phony. The whole condemnation of the Conciliarists (Gallican heretics) in the 1600’s wouldn’t make sense if the Church hadn’t “invented” infallibility until the 1800’s (we could go all the way back to Apostolic times to see this concept re-affirmed).

Whoever said “The virgin Birth” was initiated by “Peter”? The “TopTenz” narrator’s is just plain WRONG on The Virgin Birth.

The YouTube narrator stating: “there are no references to the Virgin Birth in the Bible until the Gospels of Luke and Matthew.” is also bogus. And then he tries to cast doubt on early dating of the Gospels, all the while ignoring St. Luke’s teaching is lifted directly out of the OLD TESTAMENT Prophet Isaiah!

What is absolutely “bizarre” isn’t the falsely alleged “Lost Traditions” but the “bizarre” aspect is the anti-Catholic video itself.

This is another low-budget anti-Catholic video and I can see WHY the comments were “disabled”.

I’d ignore the YouTube video Catholic Nation.

As a matter of fact, I would likely ignore ALL the videos produced by “TopTenz” on YouTube after seeing this fiasco with its numerous distortions.

Now everything’s come into focus. Note to self: never watch top 10 videos from cheap channels. Or top 10 videos that are about anything but entertainment or the arts.
 
Instead of giving certain others our attention, let’s focus on dusting up some wonderful “lost” traditions and devotions. There’s so much beauty from the Church that can be rediscovered. I’ll start things off…
  1. Sacred Heart (We see a picture, but do we know its story, its significance).
  2. Devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus
  3. Holy Face of Jesus
  4. Devotion to the Child Jesus (i.e. Infant of Prague)
  5. Holy Hour (and Eucharistic Adoration in general)
  6. Benediction to the Blessed Sacrament
  7. Devotion to the Five Wounds
  8. Little Offices (i.e. Office of the Dead)
…

I know some of these are not lost for many of us, but I feel like more Catholics (not only Catholics, Christians from all branches) can benefit from these.

Until I reverted, I thought the Rosary was a lost tradition!

Here’s one I only recently discovered: Christmas is a traditional day to pray for the Holy Souls in Purgatory!
