Hi all!

I just have to ask, since it’s been bothering me a bit, but do you guys see watching videos on Youtube.com sinful? Or at least full episodes or short clips of TV shows sinful?
The reason I ask is because I found myself watching short clips, not full episodes of… The Power Rangers!.. Don’t ask me how I found myself there, but I did, and I ended up watching short clips of the show because it really was a great memory of mine when I was younger.
Do you think this is a sin (and yes, I did kind of have the knowledge beforehand too that this might be wrong because the show might be copyrighted or something…)?
Thanks for any and all (name removed by moderator)ut, and have a blessed day!

There is no way possible that this is a sin. If things like this are bothering you, I would suggest that you need to speak to your spiritual advisor about a condition called “scrupulosity”. It is a form of religious obesssive compulsive disorder. Peace with God is impossible as long as it goes unaddressed.

Well, since the Vatican and the USCCB both post videos on YouTube on their channel, I’m willing to wager that watching videos on YouTube isn’t inherently sinful. 😉

Your issue seems to be with the question of copyright. YouTube’s policy is that they do not allow the unauthorized posting of copyrighted material. Of course, things fall through the cracks, but I don’t know that it’s our responsibility to parse it all out. The poster of those Power Rangers videos could have had permission. Or perhaps the clips are short enough that they fall under the terms of “Fair Use” and thus do not violate copyright laws. You just don’t know.

If you’re in doubt, you could always report the video in question. I checked, though, and there is an option to report a video that violates your copyright, but there is no option to report a video that violates someone else’s copyright.

…and since there’s some wonderful Gregorian chant, including by Orders, in youtube clips…

…not to mention talks, homilies by various priests whom EWTN supports…

No, it’s not sinful.
