Not judging the people who post clips of TV programs on youtube but if we view TV programs that people have recorded and put on youtube is that not stealing?

Say I watch a clip of a EWTN program that someone, not from EWTN, has recorded and put on youtube is it stealing to watch that video?

Do you know that they did not have permission to post the video? If you do not know, it’s not steeling. If you do know, then it might be:shrug:

They know how to defend themselves and have got software to catch it. It there is a coomplain, Youtube takes it off the air. If they do not complain, it is a sign that they agree.

You can watch recent shows you missed on television online legally in many places like Hulu for free. You can watch a lot of movies and past shows on Netflix for less than $10 a month. You can record shows on a DVR and even an old VCR and watch them when you have a chance. You can also borrow dvd’s from a friend who bought them, and often times you can rent dvds of tv shows on the cheap from various sources. Many of the most watched TV shows are broadcast over the air for free and you can build your own DVR to record shows off the antenna if you want. So if watching something on YouTube eats at your conscious then watch it via any one of the other half dozen ways that are completely legal.

If it’s stealing I’m not really sure, and can’t say either way. I guess that’s up to you to decide.

If it’s stealing or if the station doesn’t want it online, they usually find it and take it offline. That’s why bootleg trailers for a big movie will be taken off, or music will be muted from clips if it’s copyrighted.

Youtube is pretty reliable about taking copyrighted stuff down. But there are plenty of other sites on the web that stream movies, shows, and music and whatever you want that should definitely be considered stealing. :sad_yes:
