I’ve seen this in adoration chapels. The Living Rosary Association has St. Philomena devotionals, primarily, but also Ven. Pauline Jaricot stuff as well. When I saw “living”, I was wondering if this were like “living” will or any other modernist contrivance, but this is beautiful! I’m mostly melancholic, I think, but flowery, passionate positive stuff moves me as well as end-times prophecies and their newsletter-magazine, DD (for short), has both–mostly from classic authors. It has beautiful pictures in B/W (I prefer color, but hey, they’ve got enough beauty in their materials to pass the rest on to their missions as well as pass on devotionals to the poor around the world).

Whatever happened to passionate, excellent writing these days by devout Catholic writers? The one who wrote “Lord, Have Mercy” and “A Father Who Keeps His Promises” has good stuff, but not moving (not all must be good at that). Fr. Shaunessy of EWTN fame is good at the passionate part and I think a good speaker as well, but I don’t think he is an author and I don’t know if he can write with the power with which he gives sermons.

Anyway, you should read the miracles brought about by wearing the cord and applying the oil on someone as well as saying the novenas or chaplet! St. Joseph’s oil, given to Brother Andre, is out there as well. He ( if it’s the foster-father of Jesus Christ), was second among the highest saints–just under Mary. Still, St. Philomena is a super-saint nonetheless.

Bless the Lord!
