"Jesus Christ was not God, and Mary was not a virgin, according to a controversial new book written by an Australian Catholic priest, Peter Dresser (Diocese of Bathurst).

“This whole matter regarding Jesus being God … not only does violence to my own intelligence, but must be a sticking point,” Father Peter Dresser writes in his new book, God Is Big. Real Big. “For millions of people trying to make some kind of sense of the Christian religion … No human being can ever be God, and Jesus was a human being. It is as simple as that.”

Dresser claims Joseph was Jesus’s father, Mary was not a virgin – and actually had six children – and that the story of the resurrection should not be taken literally. Dresser’s book has angered conservative Catholics across Australia (The booklet is on sale at two Brisbane parishes: St Mary’s and the Wooloowin/Windsor/Kalinga Parish of outspoken Brisbane priest Richard Pascoe)."

Admit it…he is a plant from the Episcopalians to thow us off your trail…😛

As Bugs Bunny would say, “What a maroon.”

Now, what should be done about this dude?

Please God, pray that his bishop drums him out of the priesthood posthaste, if it hasn’t been done already. I’ll write and try to find out.

Nope, not claiming this one…😉 He is all yours, my friend Ralph! 🙂

What do you do with this guy? What about the other priest Peter Kennedy and Terry Fitzpatrick that were mentioned in the article?

God Bless!

Sounds like he’d be a good fit for the Episcopalian Church. I assume he’ll be converting post-haste.

LilyM,

Have you heard about this over in the news?

God Bless!

I have to admit I don’t watch the news a lot, so this was the first I’d heard of this particular priest, although I had heard a few things about St Mary’s in Brisbane.

He’s on the case.

Last August, he wrote this letter to the priest and parish. This just might well do it for that zany crowd of heretics.

Who does that priest think his Archbishop is, Jack Spong?

Blessings,

Gerry

Hope strong action is taken posthaste. If the Church can defrock Bozek at St. Stanislaus, or Nicholas Gruner, (both of whom apparently earned their trips to the woodshed) the RCC can surely defrock this fellow. It is tolerance of this sort of behavior which took the TEC down the path it has trodden. I am retreating to the RCC in hopes She will indeed be a bulwark of orthodoxy in cases of this sort–and I will be watching things like this to see how in fact She handles open rejection of Her teachings.

That’s from the Archbishop of Brisbane, God bless and keep him.

Peter Dresser, who wrote the book, is however in another diocese altogether (the Diocese of Bathurst). He’s still a parish priest there, last I checked, and as far as I know no statement about him has been forthcoming from the Bishop of Bathurst.

It’s a bit like the Archbishop of New York writing to New York parishes about a book written by a priest who’s in some diocese in Ohio or something - that priest should hear from his local bishop too.

Thanks for the link, that’s a really good letter. I hope the Bishop follows through and shuts the place down.

According to the letter from the Bishop, Peter Dresser has illicitly taken up residence at St. Mary’s, styles himself as its associate pastor, and is not currently employed in Bathurst.

I don’t see any mention of Peter Dresser at all in the letter from the Archbishop of Brisbane

The newspaper article refers to him as still being in the Diocese of Bathurst, Dresser refers to himself as such (Brisbane isn’t a ‘rural flock’, it’s a big city) and he’s still listed as a PP on the Diocese of Bathurst’s website bathurst.catholic.org.au/Priests/diocesan_priests.html 🤷

Which I’ve just pointed out to them in an email I wrote.

We have priests leaving the priesthood all the time though admittedly by propotion they are nearly negligible in number. Obviously this guy is going to be an ex-priest very soon if he is not already one. In fact with his new found belief he is not even a Christian.

Shouldn’t be a problem for the church because this is quite straight forward case. He needs to confrim his stand and if he does not repent, there is no way that he can remain as a priest of the Catholic Church.

You have a hearing, let them speak, if they do not recant, kick them on out.

Put a new preist there. If the parrishoniers want something else, the road that leads to the Church leads away, too.

From the Article:
Dresser’s book has angered conservative Catholics across Australia
:rotfl:

Is that supposed to mean that liberal catholics (whatever that means?!) wouldn’t have a problem with denying that Jesus is God??

Silly Media.

jmcrae,

I am sure that it is cold in Alberta, so I will cut you some slack on your post missing the warmth of Christian charity.🙂

Grace and Peace!

Who was I being “uncharitable” to - him, or the Episcopalian Church? 😉

Either way, it still seems like the best fit, since Episcopalians can believe pretty much anything they want, from what I understand. (Bishop Spong is an Episcopalian in good standing, is he not?)

I dunno. jmcrae has a case. After all, we (we meaning when I was an Episcopalian) had/have Bishop Pike & Jack Spong. Guys like this keep us all humble.
