I received this email about a new and improved Catholic website for news.
zenit.org

We think this is a big step in ZENIT’s history and we’re glad that we can incorporate it into this crucial moment of the donations campaign. That is, the new site is our way of saying thank you to all those who have supported us during this annual campaign and in the past.

We invite you to navigate through the pages. Check out ZENIT’s identity and mission. Find out how you can help ZENIT. And of course, read ZENIT news.

You’ll see we’ve incorporated a search engine. You can look around using simple or advanced searches, or browsing through our indexed archive. And, starting today, you can sign up for RSS so you can get ZENIT news as soon as it’s on the Web as well as in your inbox.

We hope you like how it looks – the graphics and design are fruit of an extensive study that began two years ago with a contest inviting readers to submit proposals for the new site’s design.

The proposal from that contest’s winner – René Dery from Canada – as well as ideas from many other interesting proposals, were the starting point for the design you now see.

The old site has been with us practically unchanged for ZENIT’s 10 years of existence. But, given the rapid advance of technology, and considering that it was designed a decade ago, it is already “prehistoric” in comparison with the site we are now launching …

The new site is using the most advanced technologies available today. Nevertheless, there are things that need improvement and we’re still working on it every day. To make a site like this work, there’s a whole system of technical support that the user never sees.

Getting it ready took an entire year of technical work and implied large investments of money and personnel, above all from the translators, editors and tech team, who have been putting in many extra hours, especially during the last three months of preparation.

So the new site is the fruit of many sacrifices, but, as we said at the beginning, it’s also the fruit of your generosity.

The financial support of our readers is the only way that we cover costs and undertake new projects like this site.

We take advantage of this opportunity to remind you that we’re in the final phase of the annual fund-raising campaign.

For those who haven’t yet contributed and are planning to do so, we ask you to act now!

You can send a donation by credit card, check or bank transfer using the page:

zenit.org/english/donation.html

For all of us at ZENIT, the new Web site is not just a goal we’ve achieved. It’s really just the beginning. We’re sure that it will help ZENIT develop further and reach more people.

Since ZENIT’s only real source of income is the generosity of its readers, we’re counting on you to make this development possible.

We’re sure the new site will meet your expectations. Enjoy!

With best wishes from all of us,

I like the new layout - the permanent link to a news story is much easier to find. Hooray! 🙂
