‘Fox & Friends’ gets punked by ‘Thomas Jefferson’

Being an upstanding patriotic program, on Tuesday, “Fox & Friends” sent “proud American correspondent” Anna Kooiman to Williamsburg to chat with one “Thomas Jefferson.” Said Kooiman, “We’re getting you in the spirit for Independence Day tomorrow; we are here live at Colonial Williamsburg & look who I’ve found! The one & only ‘Thomas Jefferson.’ ” Asked what it felt like to write the Declaration of Independence, “Jefferson” said the document was “quite literally a call forth for mankind to burst free from the chains of bondage.”

At that, Kooiman stepped back to allow “Jefferson” to read “excerpts” from the Declaration.

HERE ARE THE EXCERPTS THAT “JEFFERSON” READ:

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles… as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.

He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.

He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their pretended Acts of pretended Legislation:

For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:

A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

Really a different situation now than then, but I suppose this is what you are saying “punked” F&F.

But the reality is this country is not beling allowed by the liberal elites to have orderly laws for the naturalization of foreigners. It has to be illegals that the laws favor, not legitimate and legal immigrants who wait in line for years to enter a system clogged by illegal immigrants and discriminatory in its favoring the relatives of others who are here lawfully or simply random individuals in a lottery.

80% of Americans want merit-based immigration, but the left blocks it hoping those who enter illegally will gain citizenship and vote for the left.

I wonder what people think “merit based means”, but if we are talking about skills and talents, I am sorry that the number is not100%. But as we have seen, there are indeed some who want to stop immigration independent of skills and talents.

The reality incoming immigrants from most anyplace in the world, save Russia and some s------e countries, are probably more disinclined than inclined to vote for Trump’s right.

Well, I am not among those who want all immigration stopped. Not by a long, long way.

Might be. Might not be. Who did they ask in those countries, and the answers are based on what? Perceived trade favorability to their country? What? Interesting that the “favorable” include the Philippines and Vietnam, both of which also have the highest favorability toward the U.S. Also Israel. Hard to know about what the “views” are all about also. One might understand Vietnam and Philippines as having some expectations of increased trade with the U.S. if the U.S. and China fall out. Also, there is that business about the South China Sea. Israel is probably too obvious to comment on.

Odd that so little of Africa and Asia are in the poll. Also the Balkans, Central America, and Central Europe. But I don’t personally care a whole lot about what polls in the rest of the world show when it comes to a particular politician.

I haven’t seen the polling breakdown, but I assume it means usefulness to this country. While it might mean particularly high skills or capital investment, it could also mean skills of other sorts. I have long wished some independent authority like the Federal Reserve is with the money supply would determine how many of what kinds of people would be admitted.

Not idealizing the Fed here, but at least it’s mostly composed of people who understand how the financial system works and what the economy needs or lacks in terms of supply and rates of interest.

The way it is now, the immigration system is a patchwork that seems to reward illegal entrants more than anyone else, including the country itself.
 
I guess it’s in the eye of the beholder, to some degree, as there are different notions as to what they ought to be. The U.S. seems to be one of the few countries that doesn’t have one of any kind.
 
I mean, if 80% of people are for it, then it seems like they should know what they are saying they are for and, if they don’t, the poll is pretty much meaningless.
I didn’t take the poll, but I would think most would say immigration needs to benefit the country in some manner. Probably most do not have a detailed program in mind.
