Did anyone else here he was a dishonorably discharged soldier and married?

From what I’ve seen, he was dishonorably discharge AND received courts martial for domestic battery.

So, we have a dishonorably discharged person, who is therefore prohibited from possessing/owning a firearm.

Who was also convicted of domestic battery, and therefore prohibited from possessing/owing a firearm.

Stopped (and potentially killed) by a law-abiding citizen with his legally owned firearm.

I didn’t know those dishonorably discharged were prohibited from owning firearms. I wonder if his probation officer (assuming he had one from the domestic battery conviction) ever looked at his facebook page because this whole thing could have been prevented if someone who had no right to own a firearm was stopped after he posted his firearm all over the internet.

I am sickened by this. Everytime it happens, which is becoming quite frequent sadly, I am in total shock!! What is going on down there!!! I’m Canadian. I’ll never get used to it. These types of shootings and violence are very rare in Canada. Why you ask? Because we have strict gun control. Extensive background checks with tests you have to pass before being allowed to purchase a gun. When is something going to be done in the U.S. about this horrible and senseless violence? Assault rifles should be banned!! I know about the second amendment and the right to bear arms. But assault rifles should only be used by the military and the Navy Seals. Plus no one should be allowed to own more than one gun and a hunting rifle. Firearms should not be handed out to anyone with a violent criminal history or a mental illness. This has to stop!!! Too many innocent people are being killed. It’s not safe to go anywhere anymore. You can’t even go to Church. Or a concert or ride your bike in a bicycle lane. I don’t want to make this political but seriously something is drastically wrong!!! And it’s gotten worse since Trump got into the Oval Office. Thoughts and prayers are fine, and those people are all in my thoughts and prayers tonight, but we can’t stop at that!! Please please do something about this!! Write or email the proper people and demand that something be done before more people lose their lives and their loved ones. I am very saddened tonight about this. It bothers me tremendously when these things happen. My thoughts and prayers are with the souls of the departed, the injured and their loved ones and the small close knit community where this happened. Those people died in a house of worship.

He meets 2 of the 9 categories of “prohibited persons”…meaning they are not legally allowed to possess or own firearms.

https://www.atf.gov/firearms/identify-prohibited-persons

People ask for “common sense gun control.” We already have “common sense gun control.”

Note, a legally owned and operated firearm stopped the murder/mayhem.

…Because we have strict gun control…
… Extensive background checks with tests you have to pass before being allowed to purchase a gun…
.Plus no one should be allowed to own more than one gun and a hunting rifle…
Firearms should not be handed out to anyone with a violent criminal history or a mental illness…

Define strict gun control please?
…Buyers of firearms in the US have to go through background checks before being allowed to purchase guns.

…I own different firearms. Some for varmints (squirrel, rabbit, and now I have need to shoot a bunch of coyotes), some for birds, others for food (deer)…meanwhile I have others for defense of family, home, self, and others (such as what was used to stop this murderer). Which would you suggest I surrender?

The US Code already prevents the ownership/possession of firearms by felons, mentally incompetent, dishonorably discharged, or those convicted of domestic violence. This murderous lech fell into two of those categories already.

Gotten worse since Trump came to office? How so? Please refer to the Sandy Hook school massacre and then let me know how it has “gotten worse” since Trump.

I wonder what will be next. America’s gun death cult continues to pay off in blood.

He got a bad conduct discharge, not a dishonorable discharge.
I have read that he was dishonorably discharged, but as you know reports can be wrong as most reporters don’t know the difference between a BB gun and an M4.

An individual discharged with a bad conduct discharge (BCD) CAN own/possess firearms. However if he was convicted at Courts Martial (CM) of domestic violence he is still considered a prohibited person.

So, unless both things are untrue (dishonorable AND convicted of DV), the shooter illegally obtained and possessed the firearms.

Meanwhile, it is increasingly clear that a legal firearm owner stopped the situation.

Yes, another example of America’s gun death cult, thank you for agreeing with me! We need to stop sacrificing innocent children on the altar of the Second Amendment and finally do something about the scourge of guns on our society.

Sure…as long as we compare it with the alternatives.

The opposite of the FREEDOMS give to us by God, and delineated by our Bill of Rights, is communism.

So while the FREEDOMS given to us by God, and highlighted by the whole thing with the apple in the garden, can certainly lead to evil decisions and the consequences of those decisions…

…it is when PEOPLE decide to try to remove those FREEDOMS that the ugliness really begins.

Communism, really the ultimate removal of personal freedoms, has killed an estimated 100 MILLION people in the past 100 years…a FAR greater number of people killed by free people with firearms.

You’ve lost me here, I don’t know how this topic has anything to do with communism. But glad that you agree preventable deaths are bad and that we should therefore do something to prevent gun deaths.

I’m against evil people performing evil deeds against other people (or animals, the earth, etc).

While the 48 (??) shot today is certainly a tregedy, it pales in comparison to the millions of deaths caused by socialist/communist governments who, as one of the first orders of business, initiated “common sense gun control” (which often means gun confiscatiion).

What gun control measures would you suggest? I think we have many “common sense” gun control laws…would you propose we add any others??

Ban handguns for sure, and probably ban semiautomatics.
Thank you for your precise answer, most liberals/leftists would not be so honest.

I disagree, but that’s okay. We can disagree and still be respectful.

We are praying for your neighbors and will remember all when I go to Mass today…I pray God that you and your community though they question what happen, will not give up.hope God Bless you.🦋🦋🦋

It always ticks me off when liberals try to politicize tragedy. Conservatives doing the same thing is just as reprehensible, uncouth, and insensitive.

Why don’t you start your own gun control thread, or use one of the ones already active, at least while people are still in mourning?

If you want to speak of respect, start by showing some for the dead.
