‘Phony’ amendment to health care bill will not defund abortions, pro-life leaders charge

Washington D.C., Nov 4, 2009 / 06:18 pm (CNA).- A new amendment to a health care reform bill which claims to remove government funding for abortions is drawing criticism from pro-life leaders who deem it to be “phony.” The provision would actually fund abortion and is inferior to the proposed Stupak Amendment, they charge.
The draft text of the Ellsworth-DeLauro Amendment, which modifies the bill H.R. 3962, was sponsored by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) and Rep. Brad Ellsworth (D-Ind.), a reportedly pro-life Democrat.
In a Tuesday press release, Rep. Ellsworth claimed that the amendment explicitly prevents taxpayer dollars from funding abortion in the “public option” and prohibits U.S. Treasury funds from paying for abortion services in plans purchased through the proposed Health Insurance Exchange.

Make no mistake. THIS Congress will not pass, THIS President will not sign, ANY healthcare bill that does not provide free, on demand abortions to anyone who walks in the door and asks for one, and we the tax payer will pay for it, like it or not. :banghead:

Ellsworth is a Rep of my district in Indiana sadly to say. I sent an email(like it will be read, let alone opened) mentioning my disappointment and that if he did not rectify his voting for that abomination of a bill I would solidly campaign against him.

BTW, Wikipedia lists Ellsworth’s religion as Roman Catholic!
