“It says the hospital adheres to the church’s ethical and religious directives,” the Star’s story continued. “In situations in which a pregnancy threatens a woman’s life, doctors make every effort to save both patients.”
“If that is not possible, we will always save the life we can save,” said the statement issued to the Star.
“Soliz, who has led the ethics committee for about 10 years, worries that if people don’t believe the statement, they won’t trust the hospital will give all the care they need,” said the Star. “She said the hospitals are not just for Catholics. People go because they need doctors.”
There you go. Another case of Catholic doctors treating themselves as an island and not subalternate to nature and divine laws. The hospital should cease identifying itself as Catholic if they exist and bend to secular notions on abortion.

This is very disheartening to read, especially when Catholic hospitals are involved. There is much prayer needed.

God bless

That is not good. I agree that they should not longer call themselves catholic nor should they be able to take the euchrest. untell they whoever is involved go to confession.

We all know by now they will not excommunicate them. They could be dancing around with pitchforks, horns, and a little red cape and the current church leadership will not lift a finger to excommunicate them.

From all the other posts, I understood those who did not follow Catholic teaching were automatically excommunicated. Is that not true?

Too many Catholics do not follow the teachings of the Church. “How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life. And those who find it are few.” Mt. 7:14

these are the people from the liberation theology. those who see themselves as free from the authority of the Church. there are many of them all around us.

Pray and support the Traditional Catholic Church.

No actually it is not true that people who do not follow Church teaching are automatically excommunicated. People are automatically excommunicated only in a few cases. One of them is being directly involved in an abortion. Someone can believe that abortion is okay and they are not excommunicated.

Do you know that for certain? I was under the impression, perhaps falsely so, that only the Pope can really do an excommunication and there is not automatic feature.

There is definitely an automatic excommunication in place for those
Catholics who have an abortion.

Code of Canon Law:

Can. 1398 A person who actually procures an abortion incurs a latae sententiae excommunication.

Do you know what it says about a person who doesn’t procure, but is given no choice, as in this case?

The OP report links in turn to the original [ The case revolves around a 27-year-old woman who was 11 weeks pregnant with her fifth child in November. She was admitted to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, where doctors determined the right side of her heart was failing.

She was too sick to be transferred and almost certain to die.

Doctors spoke to the woman and her family, consulted with a hospital ethics committee and decided an abortion was the only way to save her and, because the fetus was too young to survive, was consistent with Catholic beliefs about the sanctity of life. The woman survived, but church leaders learned of the procedure, labeled it a “scandal” and this month launched a counterattack.

It sounds like the only alternative was to withdraw while the mother and therefore the fetus died. Wash your hands and pray for a miracle instead of using your God-given skills.

Is any previous poster arguing that would have been moral? (not a Catholic so no one jump down my throat, just trying to understand)

I have raised the question,in other threads, about the necessity of abortion, in this case to save solution ] the mothers life.

Frankly,we don’t know if it’s true or not.

For Catholics, abortion can never be viewed as an “allowable” necessity. It’s that simple.
I know 🙂

I’m here - my mommy isn’t …

I was just trying to point out to a non Catholic…without using Catholic teaching…the excuse given…non religious facts that we don’t know - but were presented as reason.
