I am a fan of the show, but yes, I feel bad for Mormons as I know how I feel about Da Vinci Code misrepresenting the Catholic faith. Ultimately I feel Big Love is an apologetic about “gay marriage” 😦 - but I can’t help but love it. I do think that the writers do a good job in showing both the good and bad aspects of Mormonism and cultish polygamy, and how it affects the women and children, especially. :twocents:
Sigh - I guess I probably shouldn’t watch it…:o

I have another question about the secret signs and handshakes that Mormans do. Why do Mormans do it? Sounds like something we kids did in grade school.

God bless!!!

Here is the reason given in the endowment itself, as part of the lecture they receive before they learn the secret handshakes and passwords (called signs and tokens):
You have had a New Name given unto you, which you were told never to divulge, nor forget. This New Name is a keyword which you will be required to give at a certain place in the temple today. Your Endowment is to receive all those ordinances in the House of the Lord, which are necessary **to enable you to walk back to the presence of the Father, passing the angels who stand as sentinels, being able to give them the key words, the signs and tokens, pertaining to the Holy Priesthood, and gain your eternal exaltation. **

So, apparently the angels will ask you for the secret handshakes and passwords before letting you into the presence of the Mormon god.

Any thoughts on the Big Love finale? 😃
They killed Roman, again. Is he as dead, this time, as we hope he is? Though, he provides much to the story. It might be hard to write Big Love without Roman Grant.

Joey is going to become a drunk again, after what he did. Not to mention, he is destined for outer darkness.

Nikki is still Nikki, manipulating people any way she can. Using her long-lost daughter to manipulate Bill? Worked with Barb. Why not.

Margene’s stint selling jewelry on TV cracked me up. That was one of the funniest scenes they have ever done.

Oh, and Bill firing up his own Church, with himself as the head! He’s a chip off the ol’ block. Priceless.

Does anyone have an opinion about the next “Big Love” episode? At least “Big Love” is 95% correct about the LDS religion. At least it isn’t going to be a huge motion picture seen around the world like “The Da Vinci Code” was. Now they’re coming out with a second “Da Vinci Code”! We had a reason to be mad. “The Da Vinci Code” was a deliberate attack on Catholicism. How ironic, the Catholic Church was mad because “The Da Vinci Code” was claiming we have grave secrets we won’t reveal about The Church and Jesus’ life, and now LDS are mad because their secrets might be revealed.
I watched it, I think the show is interesting, good acting. I can see any religious group feeling that the media doesn’t quite portray them right. I know Catholics are portrayed terribly in most hollywood movies, etc…but if others are watching who are not Catholic, they might feel…what’s the big deal?

I think that the show (Big Love) treads into some controversial territory, as the main characters are in a plural marriage …as the husband thinks this is the right way to worship, and live as a Mormon. Then there is a sect (the FLDS) that shows plural marriage, that has been rumored to be very abusive to women and children. THEN, there is the ‘letter’ that the show talks about, that polygamy was never meant to be forfeited, and that the ‘new’ Mormons, since the late 1800’s, since stopping plural marriages, are living in sin, if you follow the show.

So…perhaps Mormons are upset that the show can easily create confusion, and paint them to look like no one really knows what is going on.

That could be why they are angry/upset about the show. I can see that, because I am always confused when the show is over…:o

what, Bill started his own church?? sigh iTunes needs to upload this season, as I plowed through 1 and 2 in about a week, all because of the temple controversy. 😉

Addicting soap opera isn’t it.

Yeah, Roman tells Bill that he has always taken the authority of God by force. That gave Bill the idea to fire up his own church.

ending scene: He kicks it off with a sacrament in the backyard. White bread and water in dixie cups. He uses the mormon sacrament blessing, word for word.

Are you saying that your people with the special names, handshakes and tokens go to the temple and from there to God’s face? Jesus is the Mediator for us with God. Every thing you want from God you ask for through Jesus, not straight to God. Does this mean you just bypass Jesus?

That was funny when she was selling jewelry on tv with a baby on her hip! That sounds like us southerners…LOL

It is an awesome show! Yes, can you believe he made his own religion!

haha I mean, they were basically practicing their own religion anyway all along, right? They didn’t go to the CoJCoLDS, and they weren’t with the Juniper Creek group, and yet Bill still had priesthood authority, and gave it to his son, and baptized Margene. It’s all weird, but I love it. Can’t find it online so I’ll have to wait until it comes out on iTunes
