Some would say that if the pope was more papist, then it would not appear so much that others would have to be.

I thank God for this Pope every single day.

May Pope Francis be for the Church of the next 50 years that same sense of extraordinary gift that were Pope Saint John XXIII and the Blessed Pope Paul VI.

Yes, there were many gifts that came to the church through them, but you know, I can’t help but wish that we had (in addition, of course) a little more of the extraordinary gifts of Pope St. John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI. Maybe the two of them are too ‘close’ to be viewed objectively (though the early days of Pope St. John Paul II, and in particular his work which led to the collapse of communism in Europe, the great work with Lech Walesa, and above all, his gift of showing us what real ‘death with dignity’ means would mesh quite well with the prescient words of Blessed Pope Paul VI in Humanae Vitae, a work which is shamefully underutilized, and the great work of Pacem in Terrris and its affirmation of the elderly and the unborn, of Pope St. John XXIII stand right with certainly Pope Benedict’s great emphasis on liturgical reform as well as his scholarship, all of which are real treasures for Catholics)

I thought the word “Papist” was an insult, usually employed by Protestant fundamentalists when criticizing Catholics and the Church. I’ve never seen a Catholic source use it.

I understand. I feel the same about Pope Benedict XVI. He gave an extraordinary gift to the Church with Summorum Pontificum and put the focus back on the Liturgy which is the highest form of prayer.

There’s always been a group of people in error. Nothing new.

I will say that while I don’t always read what Pope Francis says, his words always seem to bring a bit of peace and hope for the world.

We’ve had many great Popes this past century. St. John Paul II’s body of teaching will benefit the Church for centuries.

It’ s a saying. " No sean mas papistas que el Papa".

Very common here.
Nothing to dig deep about. A saying. Which in this case, said by this Pope, sounds kind of funny for us.
🙂 Love how he used it,because he is precisely… the Pope!!!LOL.
The.more I think of it,the more I Iove his simplicity!!

Now I am at a loss LOL. I do not remember the Scarlet letter,Amazing Grace!!🙂
There was a passage in the first chapter which said that a Papist might have seen similarities between the maternal images of Hester and Mary.

Weirdly enough, my last name also begins with a “W”. Kinda uncanny.
