I can have contempt for a person (at least, for their behavior) while loving them. Love doesn’t mean excusing every behavior, it means, among other things, NOT excusing bad behavior. And priests are shepherds, they should be held to a higher standard.
Contempt for a person is incompatible with love.
But what’s the goal in changing the verbiage being used? Why is there a need to drop “men”?

Let it go. I’ve made my position clear.
I have kind of a standard comment along those lines. With the Mass in Latin, the priest (not to mention any of the faithful) almost certainly would not be able to ad-lib, and even if they did, nobody would understand it, thus depriving them of the reward they desire for doing so.
to me, this came about because of some females resentment about how “everything” is about men/that women were being excluded/that Jesus came to save all people men and women too - not just men.
It’s best to follow the rubrics of the Mass. Of course men refers to mankind, which I suppose seems outdated to some people. I know parishes when the rubrics refer to God as “He”, they say “God”. I guess some people are just offended by masculine pronouns. Yet they have no problems at the Our Father.
Anyway, the people all saying different things leads to a bit of a shouting match, and that’s no good. It’s far simpler for everyone to just say everything as it is written and supposed to be said.
