The Congregation for the Causes of Saints recognized a miracle attributed to Manuel Lozano Garrido, better known as “Lolo” – a blind Spanish journalist and a member of Catholic Action, who, after long being confined to a wheelchair, died in 1971.
Lolo became famous because he lived his painful suffering with joy. Throughout his life he wrote in every way possible: articles for the press, short stories, letters, plays, and above all books. He had the conviction that suffering was God’s hidden path for him.
Father Rafael Higueras, postulator of Lolo’s beatification cause, traveled to Rome to receive the cardinals’ verdict on the miracle attributed to Lolo’s intercession: the inexplicable healing of a then two-year-old boy, who is now an adult and a tennis umpire.
