Even if she can prove all the money was being donated for charity? She should have taken out the permit like a good citizen.
If she had been merely soliciting donations, there might have been a case made for freedom of religious expression.
Get over it, TE.
- Since she speaks French, it is entirely possible that she is not even a citizen per se of this country. Was Mother Teresa (a native of I believe either Romania or Bulgaria) a citizen of India when she first went to the convent there? Are nuns from France or Germany who serve in convents in, say, the Congo or Zambia, citizens of those countries?
- So saying that "she should have bought a permit like a good citizen’ might not be at all applicable in this case.
- It will be interesting to see what happens. I certainly think that more data needs to be brought out though before anyone can make a truly informed OPINION, far less a legal decision.
It appears the district attorney agrees with you:Nothing to ‘get over’, bee, but thanks for the concern.
You gave your opinion FWIW, I gave mine, that’s all.
As Catholics I do think that we can disagree with each without making “remarks” of a certain stripe to those with whom we disagree.
Whether we **do, **is sometimes another story.
God’s peace to you.
Thank goodness, common sense finally prevails! It appears the district attorney agrees with you:
When the case came to court in May, San Jose City Attorney Rick Doyle dismissed the charges. “No jury or judge was going to convict a nun of a misdemeanor for selling statues of the Virgin, particularly not on the feast day of the Virgin de Guadalupe,” wrote Herhold.
I wonder how much extra time one serves in purgatory for busting a Nun for selling statues of Christ’s mother?Thank goodness, common sense finally prevails!
Sheesh!!

As an ex-policeman from back in the 1960’s I think I would have looked the other way. If it was done from following a direct order of a superior officer, the policeman could have his/her job on the line. What about the family they have a moral obligation to support. For the officer, thats being put between a rock and a hard spot. Lets just pray that cooler heads prevail and the case is actually dropped by the DAI wonder how much extra time one serves in purgatory for busting a Nun for selling statues of Christ’s mother?![]()

Legal time mustn’t all that valuable if its so important to book a nun for selling some trinkets on a feast day…ticketed after she had stop selling them non the less. They should have thrown the book at her
- now she’s taking up legal time trying to get the charges completely erased

No all this is a case of the cop wanting to act tough in front of the guys. sort of " hey look guys. I’m so tough i booked a nun, even though she had stopped committing the offence when i booked her"…No Mr police man you’re one of two things…
- You’re a little man making up for being picked on at school one too many times.
2.** You saw some criminal committing a crime. a criminal who looked too tough for you, so you decided you would act busy so you could ignore him. and that makes him a coward…
either that or some thin skinned atheist (aren’t they all?)** was so shocked and horrified that they had to report this terrible crime to the officials and make sure this criminal felt the full weight of the law.
.B]I hope thy do fully clear her name. everyone has the right to have their name fully cleared when the law goes on like some over excited bully
Nowhere in the article does it say she was ticketed AFTER she stopped selling. What article are you reading? It says very clearly she was warned by loudhailer then warned in person and two hours later she was still there having refused to disperse. The cops were doing their job. The other traders obeyed the cops. She didn’t. And now she thinks she is something special and show get away with it as if it never happened.Legal time mustn’t all that valuable if its so important to book a nun for selling some trinkets on a feast day..ticketed after she had stop selling them non the less.
.
O yes. they shouted at her via loudspeaker in a language she didn’t understand> Sorry i was wrong. but those actions makes it even more clear that the actions of the police were racist. (hey she is catholic, so she must only speak Spanish.)I repeat - throw the book are the arrogant witch.![]()
