Flip it on its head, of three Muslims about to be executed by a ruthless Christain gov. (can you say Jerry Falwell?) and it would be on the front page of every newspaper in the world. Yes, the flaming liberal communists media skip over this like it’s nothing! I think we have seen the media’s real colors this time haven’t we? Apparently to them the executing of three Catholics isn’t a story. But, oh that’s right, moslems protesting over the pope’s speech is a story. Something is definately wrong with this. We live in the society that hates faith.

I saw several stories about the impending execution during the week before it was scheduled. But I wonder how well the violence afterwards will be covered.
Christian mobs torched cars, blockaded roads and looted Muslim-owned shops in violence touched off by Friday’s executions of three Roman Catholics convicted of instigating attacks on Muslims.
Some 200 inmates escaped after mobs assaulted a jail in the town of Atambua, sending guards fleeing to the nearby jungle. By midday only 20 had been recaptured, deputy national police chief Lt. Gen. Adang Dorodjatun said, calling on the others to turn themselves in.
And on the island of Flores, the executed men’s birthplace, machete-wielding mobs ran through the streets Friday, sending women and children running in panic, police and witnesses said.

Excuse me, but we should be condemning these Catholics’ acts. They instigated violence, they were not acting according to Catholic values. They were doing what the violent Muslim protestors do. We should NOT be on their side! (Now, as to whether they should be executed, that’s a different discussion.)

Did they instigate violence? There is evidence to the contrary and this was just to placate the Muslim majority.

The peaceful muslems had no problem killing Christians. However, didn’t I recently read that Indonesia released several people involved in the Bali bombing?

The media is a business, not a public service for the greater good.

It exists solely to make money, period.

Stories/reports/articles/etc are chosen based solely on if it is good for the business. If anyone thinks any different, they are fooling themselves.

Check out the movie, “Jesus Camp”. A bit enlightening, yet if not… at least it’s entertaining (and sad).

Three Indonesian Catholics condemned to death for the massacre of Muslims during the 2000 inter-faith conflict in Poso
Um? These are the bad guys. This not the garden-variety Mohammedan persecution. We’d probably execute them over here too. I’m against the Death Penalty in most cases, but I think we can find better poster children than these people (or Mumia).

The article claims that they weren’t given a fair trial, don’t be so quick to shun your Catholic brethren.

It’s funny how this thread starts off with demagogic rhetoric, when the Pope is against the death penalty.

The death penalty is the part of this that is most saddening to the Christian mind, surely?
These people received justice (if it was not a fair trial that shows a big problem with Capital punishment- we can never change the sentence after it is carried out) for a crime. They may be Catholics being judged by Muslims, that does not make them martyrs, necessarily.

I thought the media wasn’t to be trusted?
We have no reason to trust one part of this article and not the other. In any case, I would like to give these men the benefit of the doubt.

When people say the media isn’t to be trusted, it means that you cannot accept the media at face-value. One must always be critical.

Then do so. Looking at the rest of the page, do you believe the news site that said:
the trial that condemned them to capital punishment was marred by illegal procedures like witnesses who were not heard and evidence that was not accepted by the court.
is pro Muslim, pro Christian or neutral?

I would prefer to give anyone the benefit of the doubt when possible. Do we deny Indonesia the benefit of the doubt that they conducted a fair trial and found these people guilty justly? I really do not know the details, but I see little in the article that resembles journalism.
