Hi Peeps,
Hillary Clinton came over as very statesman(woman) like on the news today as she gave an address at John Jay College on ( I think) counter-terrorism. The tenth anniversary is big news over here and the only critisicm I have is that ITS 11/9 - NOT 9/11. Praying for all involved and as Secretary Clinton said: that day brought out the best in humanity as well as the worst.

I was out-of-town preparing for the wedding of one of my daughters. I was 'babysitting"
my then 2 yr old grandson.~~~ Not much I will forget about that day.
Tht was the day the local bus company had a free day for riders and so I decided to take the bus to work that morning. I found out about it only when I got to work. We turned the TV on, but were still expected to do our work. This will cheer the hearts of some of our conservatives who accuse state employees of being somewhat lazy. We didn’t slough off at all just because of the news. The job came first, but we watched the TV during the morning break and at lunch time.

Do all of your posts have to have criticism of the conservatives?🤷

I was on my way to work at 6:30AM PST. I like driving in silence for the first 15-20 minutes or so…then I turned on the radio and heard that a plane had crashed into the WTC…I thought “Oh God, those poor people in the plane.”…I then heard that a second plane had crashed and now we think it’s on purpose…not an accident…by the time I got to work, all hell had broken loose. I went into the conference room and turned on the TV and sat there horrified and sick.

We are an office of about 16 people…I was the only one who came to work early…every one else came in late as they had been watching TV…we all sat in the conf. room watching it unfold.

My boss finally came in and told everyone they could go home if they wanted to…right then the towers collapsed…it was shocking as we heard about the Pentagon…no one knew at that time if flight 93 was part of the attack or a casualty unrelated.

Some of us went to the Lebanese restaurant across the street for lunch and watched from there…the owner of the restaurant in days following had threats against him…my office made sure we continued patronizing his restaurant…he eventually had to close down…my small office wasn’t able to sustain his business until the craziness died down.
I was home and remember too hearing of the 1st crash and thinking it was an accident of course until the second. God bless you Publisher and your coworkers for continuing to support the Lebanese restaurant owner in the face of threats against him. I know my Muslim neighbors have acknowledged my kindness towards them during the time since that tragic day amidst being shunned by others. And I have no doubt the restaurant owner who provided you with your luncheon food was deeply thankful for the kindness of the 16 or so of you as well. Peace.

Not a criticism at all. We functioned on that day exactly the way conservatives expect state employees to function - doing our work without the sloughing off that so many think we do.

I invite you to read through the threads on the Forum and see how often liberals are criticized, far more, by far more people than are conservatives criticized. 🙂

I had at that time a large number of Muslim clients and not a single one of them felt “shunned” In fact being patriotic Americans they were shocked and saddened by what happened. I would not think of being so condescending as to beleive I had to show them any more “kindness” than i showed anyone else during that horrible time

This thread, however, is not the place to raise such things.

Our nation was hit hard that day. Many people lost their lives, many people remained shattered to this day. My prayers go out to all of them who still suffer pain as a result of the events of that day.

My concerns are: what has the USA learned from that day? Has it turned back to God? How exactly has the USA changed, other than becoming more afraid? Those are the real questions related to 911 ten years later.

What a messed up day that was. Ended up enlisting in an outfit out of MD. Really couldn’t stand to feel helpless again, but God has a funny sense of humor and see’s things differently. Still trying to understand how things unfold the way they do, but that day was the start of a lot of changes for many.

If this thread is any indication the remembrance will be used to ressurect truther theories, attack political opponents and paint Muslims as the real victims of 9-11

So far no “truthers.” I can’t imagine that anyone believes that one anymore, and as for Muslim victims, only those who might have been part of the 3,000 in the WTC.

I had three nephews enlist that year. Hard to believe those “boys” are now almost 30 years old and all battle hardened veterans (2 combat wounded) after 4 and 8 years of service.

What is even harder to believe is that my son who was only two years old at the time of the attacks talks about joining the army and fighting in Afghanistan. If Obama gets reelected it could easily happen.

You did take the opportunity to bash conservatives.

I sure hope not.
I remain hopeful that they will use it for a memorial. However, other people seem quite fine to turn it into a golden opportunity to bash their political opponents. It makes me rather sick, to be honest. It didn’t even take ONE page for it to happen here. 🤷

Agreed.

I don’t recall that about Pearl Harbor. Then again, I was alive when PH happened.

September 11, 2001 was my middle child’s very first day of preschool. I had dropped him off and was teary because I left my 3-1/2 year old son with strangers for 2-1/2 hours as he started preschool and I always cry at the beginning and ending of school years anyway because those milestones mark the rapid passage of time. My daughter was in Kindergarten at another school, so we had started the morning by taking her to school and then we went back home to get my son ready and then take him to school since he started an hour later than she did. It was a perfect September day, sunny and cool and the sky was blue with big, puffy white clouds. I decided to run errands after dropping my boy at preschool and taking the traditional pictures of the first day of school. At my first stop, I heard that a plane had hit one of the towers. I thought it was a small plane and just an accident. I was listening to the news in the van when I heard that a plane had hit the other tower. That is when the day took on a surreal quality for me because I knew that it couldn’t be an accident that both towers had been hit. I was horrified and scared. I knew we were under attack when I heard about the Pentagon being hit too. And the news kept getting worse when the towers fell and the plane went down in Shanksville. I picked up both kids from school and went home to stay glued to the television for the next several hours that day, crying and horrified at what I was seeing. I think I stayed pretty glued to the television and radio for the next several days and weeks after, trying to get as much information as I could, trying to comprehend the evil, just trying to grasp it and process it.

Good to hear about other family’s stepping up. I was 31 in late 2001. That put me in an interesting situation.
