Constitutional Sheriffs sent an email stating, “I have added the names of the following 61 Florida County Sheriffs [who] joined the previous six Florida County Sheriffs to announce that they will not enforce laws that violate the Constitution or infringe on the rights of the people to own firearms.”
This means all of Florida’s county sheriffs have now signed the pledge, the first state to achieve 100% compliance with the 2nd Amendment. The list is bi-partisan.
this will be interesting if they are put to the test and do as they have sworn since Mack and Printz v. United States ruled in favor of the county sheriffs in refusing to enforce the Brady Bill.

Huh, that’s actually kind of awesome. You rarely see 100% support for anything.

Now if only we could get a similar consensus on banning the atrocity that is abortion >_>

If this had occured a year ago, I wonder if Florida would have gone to Obama? Is this a case that could wind up in the SCOTUS?

probably not. It’s not all that much different from states passing ‘medical marijuana’ laws.

It’s still illegal under Federal law, but there will be no local law enforcement. The local police will simply choose not to enforce the Federal law.

Wow. While I’m certainly happy to hear this, I’m also a bit surprised. Florida has a lot of northern liberals, especially in the east and southern part of the peninsula.

It makes e feel good about my personal position on guns. If ever a group of people would see any real need for more gun control it would be police and sheriffs. But,those groups are saying it would be pointless and I agree.

My sheriff is an elected official whose primary job is collecting property taxes.

Agreed. The federal government has gone to court to STOP local law enforcement from enforcing federal law.

They really don’t have the time…there’s a shooting around here every day.

Given that the federal government has chosen not to enforce most of our immigration laws they have certainly set the precedent for ignoring such laws. Obama won’t enforce DOMA, Florida sheriffs won’t enforce these gun laws. Seems right to me.

A sheriff can not enforce federal law. Only a federal agent can arrest a person for violation of the federal law. A sheriff can arrest someone that has a federal warrant out for them, but they don’t have to.

So why did the local LAPD in North Hollywood get involved when a FDIC insured bank was robbed?

Because committed an armed robbery in a bank is a violation of State and Federal law.

I still remember the avid defense of the non-enforcement by the Executive Branch on immigration by the more progressive posters when I lurked. I expect they they still support the law enforcement officials choosing which laws to enforce in this case, to be fair.
