11 year old attempts suicide in a coma, needs prayers

I think you may have been one of the lucky ones, if indeed, to believe that you were shielded from the worst excesses of childish cruelty. I hate to say it, but it was very alive and well were I lived as I child. I witnessed so much bullying it would take pages to describe.

I think it may have been less reported because of different attitudes at the time. A lot of kids were simply told to “stick up for yourself,” others were ignored, and in almost every case I saw, the teachers did nothing, and boy do I mean nothing, to stop it.

A group of kids, along with my sister, brother and myself used to make sure we walked a little girl home from school everyday. She had been severely burned in a camp fire that killed her entire family, and was horribly disfigured. The older kids used to chase her and drag her into the gutter to force water down her neck brace. We would try to protect her from them by walking in groups of 6 or more around her.

My brother and friends used to walk a neighbor boy home who was a dwarf, and he helped protect him all the way through High School because of the bullies that would attack him. He died after graduating High School. My brother was bullied, in part because he protected him.

My sister would walk a girl home from Jr. High, who was disabled, because other girls in the school constantly threatened to drown her in a local lake. One time my sister finally hid in some bushes when she overheard where they were going to go. She met the three bullies and tossed them in the lake, advising them to stay clear of this girl once and for all.

You see, I think bullying is not new. I don’t think we manage it any better than we used to. For one think, the perpetrators don’t seem to ever be held responsible for what they do. One way to help stop this problem is teach our own kids to speak up when they see it going on, and to demand that the “offenders” are kicked out of school.

This story breaks my heart and touches very close to home. This 11 year old loved the My Little Pony cartoon and was horribly bullied because of it. He chose to try to end his life instead of endure any more pain at the hands of his classmates. I have heard many times that kids will be kids. Speaking as an adult who was bullied as a child in elementary school I can assure you that children can be very mean. This boy is in a coma and may have severe brain damage, he, his family, and the bullies need our prayers. for more info see the link below.

What I am constantly amazed at, is the number of kids who are bullies. What is going on in their homes that even lets them think this is OK? We were raised to know better. Mean, pushy, and aggressive behavior was not allowed by our parents. Maybe the bullies don’t know better because that is what they see going on at home and experience at home.

Maybe when a child is being a bully, social services should be sent to that child’s home to see just what is happening there?
