Australia is full of Irish people who ran away for that very reason.

So please don’t lecture me about bigotry… and don’t take cheap shots at Eastern Orthodox religious practices because of isolated mishaps.**
 
Your knowledge of the Irish migration to Australia is even worse than your knowledge of The Eastern Orthodoxy.

Rory, blessed or not, but at this cold time of year a little cognac is good to warm the bones and stimulate the blood circulation. :snowing:

May these people who drank the holy water have a speedy recovery. May they continue in their Tradition of drinking Holy Water, and may the water that is blessed into Holy Water be pure and not harmful again.

Well down here in the Southern Hemisphere, we prefer a nice cold beer at this HOT time of year (35 degrees celsius today)…

For The Love Of God ~ Why can’t we just get along?

Put the past on the side of who did what and when. This article posted is current news/events.

When my mom was just in the hospital family members gave her Holy Water from The Church to drink and they pour a little on her head and said a bunch of prayers.

They do this every time she’s in the hospital with some major illness or condition.

Just pray that these Russians get well.

Did the authorities find out what polluted or contaminated the water?

my first reaction was also “who drinks Holy Water”?

if the water over there is so bad, maybe this is a practice that should not be continued to prevent further illnesses.

when this happened, i heard a little something in the news, but never followed up on the whole story, so i hope that everyone has recovered by now.
 
I must be missing some thing here did the article say it was a stagnant lake and a well
 
This may cause no small amount of consternation with the dogma of “holy” water; probably mostly ignored. It might be good evidence for who really got the keys.

Perhaps we need to review our common use of that which is “holy”.

How long will it take to get a reading on this from the magisterium?(sp)

Some will be beatified first.

Legalism is alive and well.

It has been reported that even bottled drinking water can make one sick.

We have done a remarkable job of polluting our planet, including our souls.

Now what?

i see nothing wrong with stopping the tradition as long as they can assure that the water the people drink will be safe. we took precautions here at our parish to prevent the spread of H1N1, so i would think that they would want to do the same with safe drinking of holy water.
 
My favorite brand of holy water is the spring water at Lourdes. No chance of contamination.
 
**I really think that this thread is ridiculous.

To suggest that an ancient ritual of the Church should be discontinued because of a contemporary, and transient water quality problem is in my opinion absurd.

However, the suggestion of some (or implication of same) that such an incident is indicative of the absence of Divine approval is quite offensive to the Eastern Orthodox Church.

Comparisons to pure “Lourdes Water” are a case of this “implication”.

The fact that the Lourdes “Spring” only produces approximately one fifth of the water sold as Holy at this site, should give those drinking it pause for thought.

Unfortunately, this seems not to be important to our Roman Catholic Bretheren when pointing out an isloated and very natural problem with water quality per se in Russia.

It should be obvious to all, that blessed water is fundamentally different to the Holy Eucharist - and suggestions like “who really has the keys” are totally inappropriate in this context.

Why was this issue even brought into this forum???**
