The Tampa Bay Times reports Chris Martin decided to wear black eyeliner, eye shadow and lipstick on the last day of eighth grade at Meadowlawn Middle School in St. Petersburg.
Administrators told the 14-year-old boy he was violating the dress code.
The two women who raised the teen say they understand why his shirt’s image – an anarchy symbol and sheath – violated the code but the makeup was no different than what girls wear every day.
The district backed the principal’s decision.
The parents started a petition on moveon.org to improve tolerance training for teachers and administrators.

Tho bad he doesn’t have a Father to dissuade him from such nonsense.
 
A lot of the Goth and other people I would believe wear make up but are not attempting in my view to look transgender, it seems to be a cultural thing and you mention this “anarchy” t-shirt the student wore as well.

Sort of a mixed bag here, it may not be altogether uncommon to find a male who for goth purposes has piercings, black painted nails.

On the other hand, if a male started wearing rouge and eyeshadow, lipstick in school which has probably been done, I’d have to think about it.
 
Where is CPS to rescue this child from these two who obviously know nothing about raising a child? They let him out of the house wearing an offensive tee shirt and make up (that most 8th grade girls would not be able to wear to school) and NOW they demand everyone else be “tolerant”.

sigh Tolerance. Everyone nowadays thinks we have to tolerate everything. If we continue to have this attitude of tolerating everything, well, pretty soon there will be people tolerating evil in all of its forms.

Most 8th grade girls wear makeup, says the parent of a daughter that just completed the 8th grade.

The shirt though on the other hand would have violated our school’s dress code. No images of any kind, unless it pertains to the school and its athletic teams.

Why do you find an anarchy symbol and makeup offensive?

I don’t get it… he wore makeup, so what? Where is it written that makeup is reserved for women? There have been many cultures in which men have worn makeup.

And anarchy is just a political ideology. Last time I checked, the U.S. was a free country and you were entitled to your own politics.

Just a goth kid, and the skirts? that’s been normal for men in all sorts of times and cultures. I don’t know why Americans are so nuts about it.

NOT WHEN YOU ARE IN THE 8th GRADE!!!
Children are subordinate to their parents and to their school teachers who are legally acting as parents when children in school.
And then, there is always the question of such a kid surviving the school yard and the walk on the way home… I am sure a boy wearing make-up would be treated very well by his school mates who are victims of raging macho hormones!:rolleyes:
 
It is a shame there is no Father involved. It is difficult raising a child without both parents. Maybe the school will 'educate" him that violating the rules results in consequences. It seems this lesson is overdue and not taught at home.

I know for a fact it was a video about immigration. Which one, I’m not sure, but I’m going to try to find it now so I can cite it.
 
What is there about eyeliner, eye shadow and lipstick that appeals to an 8th grade boy?

Will this be his high school outfit as well?
 
Tolerance seems to be the prevailing philosophy of the day. Personally I think it is wrong for a boy to wear makeup in such a manner unless he is acting in a play or something. It is quite normal for actors to wear makeup when they are acting.
