According to CNA…

“The 2006 Official Catholic Directory reported 80,817 adults baptized in the Catholic Church and 73,684 coming into full communion in 2006. In addition, there were 943,264 infant baptisms.”

catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=9045

154,501 Adults and 943, 264 infant bapitsms = 1,097,765 new Catholics:highprayer:

And that’s just in the USA.

:extrahappy: :extrahappy:

Any idea where we might find world statistics?

Much to the delight of my Sittee (grandmother) my aunty joined up last year. She wasnt’ Catholic and my Sittee caused a lot of shenanigans in regards. But my aunty was making a lot of head ways on her journey.

There’s always quite a few people in my parish and we’re quite small compared to some of the huge cities in America, its always amazing to see them, the smiles are huge, they just can’t contain themselves! Its so refreshing to see the joy of the Lord in the n00bs!! 👍

How many left, fell away, or died? It is only fair to have that comparison. Who knows, we may bag a net loss.

That is harder to find out since many that leave don’t submit a letter of resignation.

That is great!!! I’d be interested to know how many of the adults that came into the Church is b/c of thier spouse is Catholic. Many of our great modern day Catholic authors/theologians are converts from being a devout protestant and anti-catholic, such as Scott Hahn.

Great news, but you might have double counted a many of the adults. “Coming into full communion” is likely a large subset of the adult baptisms.

The 154,501 Adults are those coming in to full communion and adult baptism added together. Grammer mistake.

I doubt thats 1/4 of the adults who left the church this year would equil that number

Since the Church doesn’t keep track of those who leave, it is impossible to determine if your 1/4 estimate is valid. In Germany, where church affiliation is attached to state documents, we know that 100,000 adults leave the Catholic Church every year. There is no telling what happens in the United States.

I understand. Suppose I were baptised and then came into full communion (eucharist & confirmation). I would be counted in both numbers even though I am one person. All of the following are likely senarios:

Baptised in another church, then entered full communion.
Baptised in the church, then not entering full communion.
Baptised in the church AND entering full communion.

In any case, you can’t just add the two numbers together. That is why they were published separately.

Aren’t the numbers based on those who were accepted for Election (unbaptized) and those who were accepted to the Call to Full Communion (previously baptized)?

Under the current regulations, it would be extremely rare for an adult to be Baptized, but not Confirmed or given First Holy Communion.

If you look at my original post you see that the numbers were separated, but I added them together to get the total.

The 2006 Official Catholic Directory reported

80,817 adults baptized in the Catholic Church and

73,684 coming into full communion
=154,501 Total Adults in the USA
When an unbaptised adult comes in they are Baptised, confirmed and take First Eucharist at the same Mass.

I wish there was away to found out who left the Church.
In another thread Jabronie post stats on all churches in America and Canada
forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?p=2072626#post2072626

which shows The Catholic Church with 69,135,254 members( US/Can?), reporting an increase of 1.94 percent. For 2007 I don’t know how the numbers are calculated
I wish we could find out more stats around the world.

Oh no :doh2: I just noticed the numbers I gave were for 2006 and not 2007:banghead:

I’m one of those adults too.
after 8 long monthes of RCIA classes, i will finally get to take part of the Most Holy Eucharist! it’s exciting. it must be the Holy Spirit.

Last Easter it was sweet to take Corpus Christi for the first time, this Easter Vigil I am an EM. When I’m allowed to be EM, the power I feel coming from the cup is overpowering each and ever time I get to say, “the Blood Of Christ”. It is unexplainable,

Welcome Home, it is worth the wait.

I am particulary happy b/c my niece, who I am very close to, will enter the church today!!! Now there will be 2 adult Catholics in my family!
