It’s an interesting initiative.
Telegraph article:
Under the new Catholic initiative, said to have cost just £6,000, 1m cards are being printed and sent to 24 dioceses including the Bishopric of the Forces and the new Ordinariate for disaffected Anglicans.

The diocesan officers will then give them away free to Mass-going adults.

One side of the card, designed to be carried in wallets or purses, has a space for the holder to sign his or her name and a “clear statement that the carrier is a Catholic” alongside an image of a crucifix.
At the bottom of the card it states: “In the event of an emergency please contact a Catholic priest.”
But more than an ID card, it has a quote adapted from Blessed John Cardinal Newman which is intended to promote evangelization. Here is what that side of the card looks like:

People who like this card, and who don’t live with England or Wales, may want to contact their diocese and urge something similar.

So will they be installing card readers in churches to track attendance?

Here is one available in the US. Also, I have seen others previously.
That sort of ID card can be very valuable.

However, what I like about the card being distributed in England and Wales is that it goes beyond being an ID card and encourages evangelization.

In the second post, I showed what the front of the new card looks like. Here is what the reverse side of the card looks like:

There are others in the states which do the same thing, that may be where they got the idea. The one I linked to above was the first one that popped up on a google search. However, I remember seeing other ones as far back as 8-10 months ago.

Peace,

I have old Catholic ID’s that date back many decades. We were given them when I was in elementary school. These were the basic ID’s and I prefer the embellishments given them by the Brits. U.S. dioceses and parishes probably do not have the funds to spare; and with other issues occupying the minds of bishops and pastors, they would likely put this on the back burner. It would be a nice thing to have a wealthy person donate the necessary funds to print such a card for each Catholic in the States:thumbsup:

So, we can count on you?

😉

Peace!

interesting, but I’m not sure it would actually work. buried in a wallet (especially women’s humungo wallets!) is out of sight, out of mind. might be good if you left it displayed on the dash, though.

I hope no one relies on the tiny print asking for a priest to be called, because the emt’s aren’t gonna find that. same goes for the ice contacts in cell phones - the phone could be thrown/lost, damaged, locked, whatever. anything you want emergency personnel to know should be on an id bracelet that you actually wear.
