No.
You claim to have been in law enforcement, so you had to have investigated dozens if not hundreds of crimes.
And you claim to be a lawyer, so you must have been instrumental in sending dozens, if not hundreds, of criminals to prison for life.
Were robbery, rape, and murder the invariable results of any home invasion?
Not invariably, no. But there were enough of them.
And, what sort of a jurisdiction did you work in that there were so many robberies, rapes, and murders?
Grand Rapids, inner city. Nasty place. You’d like it though----it was definitely urban, and that’s for sure.
NoEven New York City isn’t that lawless.
Here you go: city-data.com/crime/crime-Grand-Rapids-Michigan.html

I wonder how many of these deaths and injuries could have been prevented if we had stronger gun control laws in this country?
In Canada, there are more people on average that own guns than Americans. Yet, we have strong gun control laws and have very little gun violence

  1. We’re talking about New York City, not Podunk.
  2. The “honest” citizens are going to shoot first? The Big Apple isn’t the OK Corral. 😉
!
Just so you know, Chicago has a much higher rate of gun violence than Dodge City ever had.

Do you have any impirical evidence to support that??
The FBI’s 2010 Preliminary Annual Uniform Crime Report tells of a a 5.5 percent drop in violent crime and a 2.8 percent decline in property crime. With the Obama economy you’d think that crime would go up if you were one of those types who blames bad behavior on society. You know: less opportunity to succeed through gainful employment, more desire to take what’s not yours. Gun rights supporters “blame” the falling crime rate on surging firearms sales. You know: deterrence by Ruger.

Chicago with its “advanced” civil control laws has made itself a land more violent than the mythical old west that so many refer to as an example of what uncontrolled gun laws lead to.
Comparing multi-racial and multi-industrial 21st century Chicago with 19th century one industry and single racial Dodge City goes far beyond apples and oranges.

Pretty much says that gun control laws do not control criminals with guns.

You could say the same about Canada.

What makes you think Dodge City wasn’t multiracial? Old Gun Smoke episodes?

Over half the “cowboys” of the old west were of Hispanic or African decent. The Exodusters had farms and towns sprinkled through Kansas and Oklahoma for a century after the end of the Civil War.

You are speaking of demographics, and are surely correct, but I am referring to the modern interplay between the races.

Because 10-25 years after the civil war race relations were so much better than they are now? 👍
The dynamics of the two periods are different. How many immigrant groups were there back then? Tell me about the Poles and Italians and Irish in Dodge City in the 19th century. Hardly any comparison with today’s Chicago…

So what’s the problem in Chicago?

Too many guns?

Or too many races?

This has gone too far afield. I was speaking of New York City, and the topic got turned to Chicago, a city I know little about. I apologize for any confusion I may have caused posters.

But, basically, too many handguns everywhere.

Ok, so forget about Chicago or NY.

Too many guns, so if we take the guns away the problems in the inner cities will stop?
