Wonderful news

"The canonisation of Jacinta and Francisco Marto will take place during the Argentine pontiff’s visit to a Catholic shrine visited by millions of pilgrims every year.

The trip has been timed to mark the 100th anniversary of the first reported appearances of the Virgin who, according to a much-debated tradition, shared three major prophesies with the impoverished, barely-literate children.

Jacinta was seven at the time, her brother Francisco was nine and their cousin, Lucia dos Santos, was 10.

Francisco died in 1919 and Jacinta the following year in the Spanish Influenza epidemic that swept through Europe at the end of World War I.

Believers say they displayed great forbearance in their suffering because the Virgin had told them they would join her in heaven at a young age.

Buried at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima, they will be the youngest non-martyrs to be canonised, and Thursday’s announcement was greeted with joy by the local bishop."

Pope Francis will preside at the canonization of Francisco and Jacinta Marto on May 13 during his visit to Fatima, Portugal, the Vatican has confirmed.

Remember everyone, Pope Francis has granted Plenary Indulgences this year for the 100th Year Anniversary Celebrations.

I am a convert. What does this mean?
A Plenary or partial Indulgence is a way of wiping some of your time in Purgatory.

There are conditions that the Pope stipulates.

For this Indulgence, you gain it by either going to Fatima during the Anniversary year or by Praying in front of a public Statue of Our Lady of Fatima if able. If ill or unable to, there are other ways.

The activities we must do to earn the Indulgence for praying in front of a statue on public display on the 13th of each month only, this year , until October are :

Confession
Communion in a state of Grace on the 13th.
Praying for the Pope.
Say Our Father
The Creed
Invoke Our Lady
  1. Pray before any statue of Our Lady of Fatima
"The second way applies to “the pious faithful who visit with devotion a statue of Our Lady of Fatima solemnly exposed for public veneration in any church, oratory or proper place during the days of the anniversary of the apparitions, the 13th of each month from May to October (2017), and there devoutly participate in some celebration or prayer in honor of the Virgin Mary.”

Regarding this second way, the rector of the Fatima Shrine told CNA that the visit to the statue of the Virgin, “does not necessarily have to be only at Fatima or exclusively in Portugal,” but can be done anywhere in the world.

Those seeking an indulgence must also pray an Our Father, recite the Creed and invoke Our Lady of Fatima."

Thanks for the explanation! 👍

Thread title problem, nitpick department. The two Fatima children will not be “made” Saints. God has already made them Saints. The Church will recognize this and “declare” it, upon which declaration they can be included in the canon.

Thanks🙏

It will be an exciting time.

But they are called Blessed before May 13th correct? So God has already made them
saints, but until their canonization they cannot be called saints correct?

At the moment of our death, we are either going to Heaven or Hell. There is question as to whether or not a blessed is already in Heaven or ‘on their way’ through Purgatory.

Either way, the thread title is misleading. The Catholic Church merely declares saints as existing in Heaven. Only God makes saints through His Grace. No one can know for sure of the day that entry takes place on May 13th other than God Himself.

Yes I used the wrong terminology in the title of this thread. I should have said Cannonised.

I am wondering now, though, with the Gospel passage Mathew 18:18

Truly I say to you, Whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

If the Pope can indeed declare someone a Saint. So I did some googling about the process.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canonization

Now once a person reaches the Blessed stage, if not a Martyr, the Faithful can pray to that person to intercede on their behalf. If God grants a Miracle, due to that intercession, this is taken as a sign from God that the Blessed does indeed enjoy the Beatific Vision.
