Those people may not share the same religio that we do though. To them they are doing nothing wrong. To impose ones religion on another feels wrong to me. If you don’t like it that’s fine. However leaving a kid to starve or be abused in a orphanage is far worse then letting them live with two gay people. Sorry to have to say that.
I know a woman who was raised in a Catholic orphanage. She has fond memories of her very large family (other boys and girls as well as the nuns). She was neither starved nor abused, grew up a happy woman who later married a man and had a loving family of her own, teaching them the same morality and loving care that she was always shown.

The only thing most people know about orphanages is what they read in Oliver twist

That’s wonderful but that’s not what happenes to everyone. I know someone who was in a Romanian one and they got treated rather badly if I am correct. I wasn’t abused either but they do kick you out eventually where I was.

This is rather true actually. They aren’t some bleak place most nurses where I was treated the kids well. It was still no place to strive to be in though.

I think there are but a few , if any, orphanges still open in the US

Not every child gets to pick who they go to. I sure did not and neither did many other kids. I don’t know where they do get to choose actually other then if they are old enough to make a decision like that. I guess perhaps after 15 or so would be understandable.
No, but the adults that place them into homes CAN, ergo, if the child understands the need/necessity of having a mother and a father than adults should not DENY them this, especially in light of the fact that there are dozens of heterosexual couples lined up for every adoption.

I think there is more foster care in the USA then orphanages.
Yes. And for many children, foster care is an endless revolving door of families, some of whom are wonderful and loving and some of whom are…not.

I agree and its a shame because they deserve better. That can be a lot for a kid let alone anyone to go through.
