2 Peter 2:22 What they have done is exactly as the proverb rightly says: The dog goes back to its vomit and: As soon as the sow has been washed, it wallows in the mud.

How do you escape from this?

I think it sums me up, no matter how hard I try I never make it.

Well, you’ve been a great prayer warrior, don’t underestimate yourself Nelka.I think there is your answer -helping others and others helping you in turn.
Life is good.Jesus I Trust in You.

Jesus fell 3 times on the way to Calvary. The lesson for us is that however many times we fall, we should keep getting up.

If you are worried about a specific sin recurring over and over, you might talk to your confessor about ways to break the habit.

If you are concerned that you keep falling/ failing in general, we are fallible humans and will never do a perfect job; you have to just keep getting up.

One of my confessors told me, when I confessed the same sin repeatedly, that we keep falling like this to show us that we can’t do it alone and that we need God’s help.

Try just doing your best and then relying on God/ putting your trust in God, beyond that.

Hello Nelka,
These proverbs are not meant to be purely cyclical. It is never an unending chain. It is simply meant to highlight the gravity of the situation and the disorder of the inclination to return to sin. Think back to Christ’s encounter with the canaanite woman, “She said, ‘Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters.’” (Mt 15:27) St. Bernard of Clairvaux said there are two feet of Christ with which we walk the Way of Salvation, find the Truth and live the Life. These are justice and mercy. When we find that we cling too strongly to one, we must throw ourselves at the other so that we may come to balance upon both equally in time and move foreward on the path of God.

It seems you truly recognize the gravity of sin. By this very fact, you have been given grace to see the error of your ways. We do not overcome sin upon our own power. God will work in your life in his own time if you are persistent in your attempt to lift yourself out from the depths. Don’t lose hope.

God Bless,
Br. Ben, CRM
