It is not a question of anti-muslim nativism, or the injustice you seem to perceive against religious minorities. It is a defense against the islamic law that has created the Muslim East, and, if left unchecked, will contribute to further expansion in the West.
It may be such a defense, but it is not a rational one. We live in an 85% Christian country yet we do not live under Christian religious law. Simply because an immigrant is coming is a Muslim does not mean they are intent on establishing Sharia’ law.
I would have to instantly disagree with this assertion.
- The Christian faith (and its people) have the greater claim to antiquity, in comparison to the Muslim. Therefore, it is factually incorrect to view them as immigrants (especially the copts of Egypt, who lay claim to the ancient see of Alexandria)
I was referring to Muslim immigrants. Anyone, Muslim Christian etc, complicate in human rights abuses should not be permitted into the country baring some extraordinary circumstance. If the Muslims do not actively persecute Christians but simply live under an authoritarian government who does (either actively or passively) their governments actions should not reflect on them.
- There are many, many ways in which a religious minority can be persecuted which would not constitute an abuse of so-called ‘human rights’.
like what?
Moreover, shifting secular morality is a poor indication of the rights that we, as children of God, have a right to.
Well Jacques Maritain was a major force in shaping the UN’s declaration of human rights so I doubt it is to far off. Do you have anything particular in mind?
I think ignorant is a word best used in relation to scientific fact, and doesn’t really have a place in this discussion.
I suppose I disagree. When someone seems to believe that Muslim immigrants are some monolithic population despite the amply empirical evidence to the contrary I would consider that ignorant.
I will not, for example, claim that you are ignorant, because you are not aware of the acute levels of persecution that Christians suffer in a Muslim country, that cannot be seen merely through observation.
Do you live in a Muslim country?
You are right, I do not know the full extent of persecution that Christians suffer under some Islamic states. You do not seem to realize that it is not only Christians who suffer. Other denominations of Muslims suffer as well. As do Jews and liberal Muslims. Of course other populations of religious minorities get along with the larger Muslim population just fine.
Secondly, it would appear to me that your contention lies mainly in the fact that you believe my fellow posters and I have no understanding of the Islamic faith, or at least are making judgements based on fear, or tabloid headlines.
I don’t think it stems from ignorance of Islam as a religion. I have know idea what you all know about it and I am far from an expert. I do think that some here entertain fantastic vies of reality perhaps influenced by a more reactionary form of the Catholic Faith rather than a more realistic but much more messy and ambagious view of events.
Your own interpretation of the situation seems to be based in some sort of post-modern utopia, and I cannot, given the political climate, understand why you would cling to such a flimsy model of human existence
I don’t think I am delusional. I do not think that a major Holy War is inament in the US or that we ought to bar all Muslim immigrants from entering the US or Europe. My refusal to indulge in apocalyptic fantasies or bigotry give me a more, not less, clear view of the world.
Thanks for the discussion!

God Bless,
Thanks you
