My personal opinion is that Joseph Smith was a con man, and a particularly brazen one, at that. He was brave enough to operate on a large stage. Fortunately, though, he was susceptible to being conned, himself, and this appears to be the case with the Kinderhook plates story. It seems that stories like this don’t have much effect on true believing Mormons. However, my guess is that most Mormons know nothing about this stuff. My fiance spent 25+ years as a Mormon and knew nothing whatever about this, or 99% of strange Mormon doctrines.
I do not share the same opinion. But i just dont understand how a man in maybe his teens or in his twenties, with no education at all living in a small town. Could have made up the Book of Mormon, considering its size and how complex it is. Its something that is hard to explain in my eyes. Also considering he had no computer or high tech machine.

Joseph Smith did not write the Book of Mormon - Sidney Rigdon did.

Here is a great study proving Rigdon to be the creator of the Book of Mormon.

Check it out.

I have a question, the LDS Church is the only church that actually says that they have had divine revelation and have actually seen God. In a few talks LDS church authorities say they stand as special witnesses or in other words have met or seen an angel of the lord or the God himself. This is one of the few things that has troubled my faith. Im still undeceided whether i should let the Missionaires keep coming back.

Many Catholics have been visited by angels, by the Blessed Virgin, and by Jesus himself. And these visitations are available for everyone to read about. Many of them, like the Marian visitations at Lourdes and Fatima were witnessed by thousands and had mighty miracles attached to them.

But the Mormon “12 apostles” cannot be members of the 12. Read the biblical description of the requirements to be one of the 12 (Peter speaking when deciding on a replacement for Judas):
Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection. (Acts 1:21-22)
This passage tells us two important things:

1: The purpose of the twelve was to be special eye-witnesses to the reality of Jesus’ resurrection.

2: They had to be men who knew him personally and traveled with him from the beginning of his ministry until he ascended into heaven.

No modern man fits these qualifications. Joseph Smith did not know the bible. The Mormon “12 apostles” are posers.

But wasnt Sidney Rigdon in the same position where he didnt have much education.
On the contrary, for his time Sidney Rigdon was quite well educated. He had been schooled in the bible since he was a child, and was a professional minister (before he was thrown out of the Campbellites and after he left the Mormons). He wrote many extensive religious works throughout his life, both before he was a Mormon and after he left the Mormon church. Much of his writings survive to this day, and they are remarkably similar to the sermons in the Book of Mormon.

The reason Sidney chose Joseph to “bring forth” the Book of Mormon was so that he could advance the argument that the book must be divine because Joseph was uneducated. This is the same argument the Muslims use to try to prove the Koran, since Muhammad was supposedly illiterate.

Please read the material at the link I provided above.

Sidney Rigdon was educated, but he did not write the Book of Mormon. Don’t believe what they say. There is not a shred of evidence that anyone other than Joseph wrote, or rather translated the Book of Mormon.

He finally admits it! He finally admits it is a work of MAN and not from God!

Praise the Holy Spirit!

Tell us about Mormon theology and why you refer to Mormonism as being “Christian”… How is it Christian when it appears that in no way does it conform to the Christian Faith . Or, show us the link between your theology and Christianity. Perhaps we have misunderstood and will feel better once you give some details.
Hey Zerinus???

We are still waiting for your reply. How is Mormonism a ‘christian’ sect?

Rbt

Craig Criddle’s work certainly pins it down.

Joseph Smith was far from being the primary author (“translator”) of the Book of Mormon. Rigdon did most of the work, knitting it together from other texts, and putting his own stamp of pseudo-King James English on it. I don’t even think that Joseph was familiar with much of the text.

No, Mormonism is not Christian. But I do not say that to denigrate non-Christians. There is a lot to learn from other faiths, even those as far out as Mormonism. Back-handed as usual. 😃

I’m sorry but how are Mormons not Christians they believe in Christ. And this kinda of thinking thats making me like the LDS Church. All the other religions are always saying how everbody else is going to heck but them and how you better stay away from other churches( And you can’t change my mind, the bitterness of the Catholic church i used to go to has forever been indented in my mind). While on the other hand, every LDS church ive gone to. They talk about one thing and one thing only. **Love,**the passion and sincere love they have for not only their members, but everbody else amazes me. When other people put them down and insult them , then I say your not a christan. Because Christ or heavenly father would never ever do anything close to that. They both love us no matter what we do. Even if the LDS Church has different opinions or if you beleive are wrong then keep it to yourselves. Its not your place to say anything bad about them.

Brandon,
You do know, don’t you, that the Mormon church’s entire existence is predicated on declaring every other church to be an “abomination” and to be completely apostate.
I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)—and which I should join.
19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.” (Joseph Smith History, The Pearl of Great Price)
LDS Apostle Orson Pratt wrote: “The gates of hell have prevailed and will continue to prevail over the Catholic Mother of Harlots, and over all her Protestant Daughters;…the apostate Catholic church, with all her popes and bishops, together with all her harlot daughters shall be hurled down to hell… .” (Pamphlets by Orson Pratt, p.112).
Please, learn your church’s history and teachings.

These arguments over which church is the most Christian are growing rather tiresome. You might as well argue who has the biggest biceps–no wait, that can actually be resolved by arm wrestling. The “Who is the Most Christian” contest seems to be more of a contest over the meaning of what that means rather than who can fulfill the requirments. I’m throwing my support to Brandon because of some thing I read:

Matt 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

and

James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

So now do we get to argue which church does the will of the Father better or which one visits the widows and orphans most often?

Yes, if you’re going to decide which one is the most Christian. Absolutely yes!

I agree. The arguments are tiresome. I don’t think Matt 7:21 or James 1:27 are important factors here. What’s important is which church (Catholic/Protestant or Mormon) is true. Catholics and Protestants may disagree on theology, but they come about their disagreements honestly because of a different interpretation of true scripture. As long as Mormon theology is based on false Mormon scripture (the Book of Mormon and the Book of Abraham) it has no claim to be Christian. To put forth proven false scripture as a basis for their truth puts Mormonism at a considerable disadvantage. Liars aren’t Christian and every time a Mormon testifies to the truth of those scriptures they are lying. It wouldn’t be so bad if their lies were innocent, but the fraud of these scriptures is so well established as to be irrefutable by an honest mind. That can’t be changed by an appeal to a supposed spiritual witness because any such witness has been proven false by the facts on the ground. Just based on their use of fraudulent scriptures, I would have to say Mormonism is not Christian.

My opinion is pretty simplistic. I always figured that if you believed Jesus was the Son of God, died on the Cross for our sins, and rose again on the third day that pretty much made you a Christian, no matter what denomination you belonged to.🤷

Yes, if you’re going to decide which one is the most Christian. Absolutely yes!
Then who gets to decide what the will of God is? Joseph Smith? Brigham Young? Gordon B. Hinckley? These men have taught things that are so contrary to the bible and to the teachings passed down from the apostles that it is doubtful that they could ever know what the will of God is.

Paul

Well obviously God does. It’s up to us to find the people who we think are the true messengers of Heavenly Father. But don’t say “Catholics aren’t Christian!” or “Mormons aren’t Christian!” You can say that you don’t believe they represent your idea of what you think Christianity is. That’s okay. But surely it’s a matter of degree in the long run.

As long as Mormonism claims its extra scriptures are historically true, they can’t be called Christian. The belief that Native Americans have been cursed with a dark skin due to disobedience is racist at its core, especially when there is absolutely no evidence that it is true. How can believing a whole race of people’s dark skin is a result of God’s curse ever be considered Christian?
