I’ll leave it that it has been debated before and can be debated again. There are certainly pros and cons to the issue.

Personally I do think C. Cristie is a very honest person, does not seem to be opportunistic. For a politician, actually pretty good. I do agree with the point that he seems much less partisan than some other Republicans might be. I do think he carries a lot of good will and sometimes we do have to be compromising. The problem nowadays is becoming that our country is so diverse between West Coast, East Coast, New England, Mid-Atlantic States, Southwest, South and so on per geographic divisions.
Sounds like another GWB. I didn’t agree with all his policies, but he was honest, upfront, and loved this country.

I would vote for Christie, Romney, Santorum, Walker, the 831st name in the New York City phone book, as long as they oppose Hillary Clinton and the Party of Death.

What? The dreaded “Other” mishmosh of " … wish*** they ***were candidates" has finally been eclipsed (in this poll) and an actual candidate has taken the lead?

:clapping::dancing::extrahappy: - because the GOP certainly can’t run “other”.

As for some recent news on that “leading per plurality here” candidate, here’s some you might not easily find elsewhere:

If a Republican is elected in 2016, how do you think the new president should address what’s happened during Obama’s presidency?
Start all over. Wipe the slate clean. Because on just about every front the President’s policies have been a disaster for the country.
It is apparent that the president’s international work has been devastating not just for American security, but it’s been very destabilizing to the world. We’re seeing conflicts arise, we’re seeing a scale of brutality that we haven’t seen really since the Vietnam War.
And the president, as he’s said, just doesn’t have a plan.
Experience matters when you have any job of significance and importance, and knowing what you’re doing, whether you’re running as a president, or running a major company, or you’re playing basketball.
Knowing what to do and how to do it and having experience, you want those folks when you’re in the championship game, when you’re trying to make your company profitable, or when you’re trying to run a country.
This is, I think, a lesson learned from the Obama administration and so I’m hopeful that going forward we’ll have someone with experience in national security and experience in being able to layout a vision for America that is a unifying one, not a divisive one.
👍 IMO. No pale pastels here. It’s straight talk … even if somewhat amusingly vague regarding WHO the speaker is talking about AS that candidate. 😃

Q and A quote above is from the U. of Notre Dame publication **“Irish Rover” ** and pre-candidate Rick Santorum. The only emphasis I gave it per editing was to change the single paragraph (in the article) into several for your ease of reading. - CaptFun 😉

That said - this poll is …*** unique *** as compared to other national polls on the potential 2016 candidates. But from the looks of things so far, 2016 polls look almost as volatile as the 2012 polls per GOP candidates, with lots of “flavors of the week” so far.

It is very clear a number of Conservatives like to say Cristie is not a Conservative, even that he should join the Democrat party. I do respect those points of view.

However for me, being Pro-Life is certainly going to trump virtually every other issue out there.

And I was just saying if Cristie wins the nomination to run for President, I will not abandon someone who has a fairly solid pro-life record which is to be lauded.
Is Christie’s cabinet full of pro-aborts? I suspect yes! I know that his judicial nominations have been disasters.

Poor Hillary! She is whining about social media! I wonder why… Maybe because you can’t fully whitewash her despicable past on social media. 😉

I doubt if he defunded Planned Parenthood 4 different times because he had pro-aborts in his cabinet. That’s not how Planned Parenthood special interests work.

I know he nominated some known Gay to a position.

With Governor Christie, I’ve wondered if his New Jersey/New York tough guy approach would play well in the rest of the country. I think that this area accepts and respects it, but I find it a bit of a put-off. That said, I am more than willing to wait to learn more about him before making a decision.

The most valuable path for the Republicans is to NOT have a favorite when the process begins in January 2016 and let the voters sort out the best candidate. It works for President Obama in 2008 and it’ll hurt the Democrats in 2016 if they are simply going to coronate Secretary Clinton.

Some Planned Parenthood clinics have closed because of the defunding in New Jersey, they don’t like him at all.

I’ve watched him in interviews, maybe along the boardwalk, he’s acted like a tough guy but he was genteel in the interview. If you search out photos of him, he has at times been very heavy. I believe they say he got one of those stomach surgeries. I think I also saw a picture of Christie in High School, if it was him, he looked like so many skinny teenagers.

I think Christie may have the “loud” NY/NJ persona but not necessarily the “tough” guy, Big Boss personality.

Liberals always squeal like stuck pigs when they can’t control the news and the narrative.

Since “Other” in this poll is JUST behind leader Rick Santorum … who might those “Others” (not named already in the poll) be? Well …

Coming off a resounding 2014 midterm victory that saw the GOP take the Senate, increase its advantage in Congress, and add several more Governorships (including several reputedly “Blue States”) - several more potential candidates for President may have emerged (or re-emerged) should some of these decide to throw their hat(s) in the ring.

Among them:

**Scott Walker (Wisconsin Governor) - **AGAIN beats a national Democratic campaign
against him! Plus the economic turnaround of Wisconsin he’s piloted has earned him bigger victories each time.

Look for his numbers to jump after getting a glowing tribute on Rush Limbaugh’s nationally sydicated show.

**John Kasich - **a former Senator, won the Governorship of critical swing state Ohio by quite a margin. His message sounds quite a bit like the “blue collar conservative” narrative associated with Rick Santorum (leader in THIS little poll).

If Ohio’s economy rebounds under Kasich he will be a formidable party leader whether he opts to run for President or not.

**Cory Gardner - **The new Senator from swing state Colorado. It’s more probable that his name might be mentioned as a Vice-Presidential candidate given that he hasn’t begun his term yet. But turning a blue state red is an automatic qualification of sorts.

**Susana Martinez (New Mexico Governor - re-elected in a “blue” state) - **She’s female and Hispanic, a winner and interesting. There’ll be VP talk I think.

**Sam Brownback ** (Kansas Governor … re-elected) Supposedly headed for a loss he won by three points. His tax cuts and tough fiscal measures haven’t produced results so far in the Obama years, but a comeback for the state could make him very popular.

**Terry Brandstad - ** (Iowa Governor … landslide) - Did Branstad’s coattails help Joni Ernst? No one says so … but he got more votes than she did.

**Joni Ernst - ** It’s a litte early to tout Joni for national office, but she’s the star of the day per the media. She’ll definitely be asked to speak at the GOP convention I think.

**Greg Abbott - ** (Texas Governor) Smashed feminist icon Wendy Davis in a landslide. He’s regionally challenged in that he comes from a seemingly secure “red state”. Which also has Senator Ted Cruz possibly running as Texas’ favorite son.

**Brian Sandoval **- (Nevada re-elected) In the home state of Harry Reid, Sandoval scored a big re-election win. Could Nevada turn RED in 2016 after going for Obama last time?

**Rick Scott - ** (Florida Governor … beat Crist, re-elected) - Scott won a close race, but the Democrats were reduced to running a former GOP moderate against him … and it didn’t work. Regionally challenged as a candidate in that both Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush come from Florida too … so there might be a dilution of a power base due to the multiplicity of Florida’s “favorite sons” per the GOP nomination.

**John Mc Cain - **was also re-elected. Funny. I actually forgot he was still a Senator.
Not much news from that body in the Harry Reid years.

Larry Hogan (Maryland Governor) -

Rick Snyder (Michigan Governor) -

Bruce Rauner (Illinois Governor) - **

Though this thread seemed on hiatus, this topic is likely to heat back us now that the 2014 election is behind us.

…add several more Governorships (including several reputedly “Blue States”) -

There are only nine state legislations which are under (complete) Democratic control.

This is the best chance to get the constitution amended to prohibit abortions. The only thing is who will lead such a movement outside of Congress?

I really like the sound of a Kasich-Paul ticket.

I agree with you about Rand Paul being the VP nominee but I think Scott Walker is a better candidate than Kasich.
I put Kasich a smidgeon higher than Walker due to Kasiches experience in the media, sitting in for O’Reilly, and I think he did some episodes of Rushes and Hannities shows for them as well, sitting in for them as well.

That speaks for a lot of media savy in front of a camera.

Santorum in the lead? Huh? I can’t imagine the GOP picking Rick Santorum out of the 2016 candidates. He’s been around the track so often he’s muddy…

My bet would be Walker. Also, where’s the Democrat 2016 thread?!?!

😃 Sounds like you’re praising Santorum with faint damns.

It’s a big field and all but one will “lose” (as in NOT be the one nominee) … so chances are you’re right. But Santorum’s odds ought to be much less than his starting point last time - which was just his own money, a station wagon and a plan to visit all 99 Iowa counties. After he won he got some backing and won 11 states and was Romney’s main opposition.

As per the Democrats … polls have Hillary Clinton a prohibitive favorite over all other potentials (though her super high numbers keep dropping as months go by).

For something similar to this thread but per Democrats, a good starter might be here …

Three Democrats have already committed to running in the primaries. The site names many more potentials. Of the three now running my favorite has got to be …

Vermin Supreme < Performance artist and perennial candidate from Massachusetts. Although it pretty much scotches the idea of using that great name as a nickname for other politicians. 🤷

the above is not a prank - that’s the fellow’s name and picture! He also “ran” in 2012. :sad_yes:

No need for a poll for a single candidate. Isn’t Hillary the chosen one who is going to lead the Dems to victory?

The Repub side is an open field. 🤷
