I think you are naive. You do not have idea of the tricks and mental powers that this more elder men use to attrack young women… You do not have any idea… this is how they use their experience. So I do not blame at all the lady, she is being used and the only hope is to make her see that, but…
We are talking of normal situations, it is so difficult for you to understand really?
I hope you can swallow your words now, or you do not reed the information we are given properly?
Gloria
I am far from naive. I have dated men who were older, my age, and younger. There wasn’t a single older man that “tricked” or “attacked” me. I happened to have met those older men, liked them as persons, felt attracted to them as a woman, and dated them to enjoy their companionship and to see if we were possibly compatible as mates.
In my late teens and early 20’s I preferred the company of older men. Men in my age group were immature, had nothing to talk about other than video games and partying or were still in school and had zero real world experience, were chronically broke, had no clue how to treat a woman, and simply held little appeal.
Older men were mature, they could discuss a variety of subjects, they were settled into decent careers, had experience in the real world, knew how to make a woman feel like a woman (opening doors, behaving with manners, complimenting more than appearance) and were very appealing. Nothing wrong with that. There’s even a term for handsome and virile older men. We call them “silver foxes”.
I also do not believe this older man is using this younger woman. She doesn’t seem to have a lack of real world experience, has lived with a man before, and has freely chosen to lie with this man. If he simply wanted to use her there would be no need for them to live together.
Remember, we aren’t talking about a child here. We’re talking about a fully grown and fully formed independent woman. She’s not being tricked, she is fully aware of her situation and has freely decided to be with this older fellow because she likes him.
Your age related real situations are somewhat valid concerns. Yes, this fellow may be in poor health in 20-30 years. But there is no guarantee of that. He may be quite healthy and active into his 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Some men are. Most of the men at my gym are at least 20 years older than me (I’m 38) and in much better physical shape. The bottom line, though, is that this woman has the right to choose her own life. If she is willing to risk being a widow in her 40’s or 50’s, that’s her choice. It’s not like she’d die with him. She could choose to remain a widow and be content with that or she could choose to remarry.
You forgot Alan Rickman.
Oooh, he’s awesome!
Also forgotten were Patrick Stewart, Sean Connery, Jon Stewart, Bill Mahr and John Slattery (from Mad Men…he pays Roger Sterling if you’ve seen the show). All attractive older men I’d date in a hot second if I were single and they suddenly developed a fondness for chubby ladies with kids
Just want to weigh in to say that I have been in a may-dec relationship for 25 years. My beloved hubby is 21 years older than me. That people find these relationships “yucky” or “icky” is so crazy, but we’ve been ignoring those kinds of comments for years. We’re happy; who gives a rat’s behind about the crazies?
Good for you and your hubby! As I said earlier, there is a 20 year age gap between my Aunt and Uncle. They’re happy together and have been married for over 20 years now. She’s 37, he’ll be turning 58 soon. They’ve never had any problems with the age difference, either, other than some naysayers they’ve just ignored.
But, that all said, the OP’s daughter and her fellow should take a step back, figure out what they are going to do as far as marriage goes, work toward a finalized divorce and an annulment. Most seem to have no issue with the age difference and appropriate issues with the marital situation and them living together. I think the OP would be a bit more accepting if he/she could be assured that the couple were going to make things right.
