Hi,

Are we trying to keep tabs on which church(protestant or catholic) has the most scandals. At least these men own up to their immorality and step down.👍

Sorry to sound mean but we dont need to talk about this stuff. We should pray for him instead. I dont talk about the priest scandals because I feel bad for them as individuals who have sinned.😦

I hope you will forgive me for being so blunt.😦

Not at all, Allforhim. It is a fair comment.

Given how they have attacked us it should not surprise them that they get similiar treatment. Eventually it should hit them that it has nothing to do with celibacy etc.

Exactly, I’m just trying to point out that though the media singles out Catholic priests, this happens everywhere. Just a sign of the deviant times… I’m not saying “Hah, evangelicals are bad!”

I agree with you.

While these scandals are shocking for whatever church these men belong to, they merely remind us of human nature and our ability to sin.

These are individuals who have sinned, but they in no way reflect the teachings of their respective churches. A protestant minister who is charged with these crimes no more represents his denomination’s beliefs then a priest charged with these crimes represents the Church.

and again…that’s the point I was trying to make…I didn’t put it here to shock. I certainly hope you don’t mean to imply I was suggesting that all protestant ministers are gay…I posted this to show that abuse and homosexuality are not limited to Catholic priests. It is a commentary on the state of our society that this is so widespread. Protestants AND Catholics need to be reminded of that sometimes. Our poor priests have all been stereotyped by large segments of the population as a gang of deviants.

These scandals should definitely give anyone who has criticized priestly celibacy pause for thought, as Cestus pointed out. For celibacy opponents, allowing married men to become priests is supposed to be a magical cure for the scandals and ease the priest shortage. Obviously, from the example of these two Evangelical ministers, having married clergy does not immunize a church from these kinds of scandals.

What I continue to ponder when ever I read about these men (married or unmarried) who have dedicated their lives to the preaching of God’s word **is why God’s grace has not helped them to overcome this sin. **It would seem that if God called them to teach others that He would also provide them the necessary grace to overcome this temptation.
Just thinking out loud.

Hi,
Probably the same reason God’s Grace has not helped me to be the perfect biblical Proverbs 31 wife. PRIDE:( We all have it and it lurks in the shadows somewhere in our lives. For me it is the submissive wife thing.😦 If we cant humble ourselves well sin happens.😦

Hi,
Who are the THEY AND THEM that you refer to. The only people I have ever seen condemn the CC after the priest scandals is the MEDIA. As a matter of fact that is the only time I ever heard and well HBO did a documentary on Priests and the CC. Not once did I ever hear a minister stand up and condemn the priests.

Now with that said. I am not God and I am not everywhere.:o

Actually I dont think you will ever hear a priest stand up and talk about the evangelical pastor problems either. I think they respect each other as preachers of the Lord and would never talk about each other.

We, the general population, are the ones that like to gossip and judge one another.

Wow, I must be having a bad day(It is only 12 here:eek: ). I seem to be posting angry today.:o Sorry

They need to read **The Way **by St Josemaria Escriva’.

It’ll really give your spiritual life a kickstart.

Of this I am certain we all agree: the only one who will take any delight in another Christian Pastor having to step down because of immorality is Satan. 😦

I share your sentiments, Catherine. This is a totaly mystery. I’m sad to hear about this story and I, too, don’t understand how men who’ve dedicated their lives to serve God can not receive more graces from our Lord. 😦

Amen. I’m sure the Gates of Hell try extra hard to prevail against God’s emissaries.

All, I have been personally attacked and insulted by fundamentalists and evangelicals over the scandals. When it happens again, and it will, I will simply remind them of these recent scandals.

That sounds fair enough.

Hi,

Im sorry you have been subjected to this.😦 I say shame on them:mad: But, try not to repay evil with evil.😦

It’s not the sexual act that bothers me as much as the hypocrisy. ANother vocal opponent of homosexual relations is apparently engaging in homosexual relations.

I have a related thought on this…is it automatically hypocrisy to preach against a sin…even though you are caught up in it?

I mean…isn’t it a minister’s duty to preach the teachings of the faith, even when he/she isn’t living up to them themselves?

I get tangled up in my mind whenever this sort of things hits the news…maybe they were struggling against this behavior and do believe it is sinful, yet couldn’t seem to find their way out of it.

My mother in law is a chain smoker, but vehemently encouraged her kids and grandkids not to smoke, that it was bad for them, and that she’d wished she’d never started. Does that make her a hypocrite?

I really don’t know…just wondering what y’all think.
